PRINCESS YACHTS QUALITY ISSUES

Considering the cost of your boat this is very poor service, okay you will get faults but if I had spent that kind on money I would be very very angry. I suggest contacting the Head Office in the UK and give them a hard time, I reckon that would be enough to get a response that makes you a happy princess owner.

Good luck and keep us posted how you get on.

I have never had anything to do with Princess but my impression has been that owners who post on here generally speak well of them. A number of the posters on this thread are either current or (recent) past Princess owners.

Whilst this doesn't mean that the company isn't capable of disappointing, I hope it gives you some encouragement to think that if you can get hold of the right person you will move forwards.

As others have said, I would speak to the UK head office.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Several of us on this forum have bought new Princesses from the UK's dealer, Princess Motor Yacht Sales. I think I speak for all of those I know when I say that their after sales is second to none. In my case there were a considerable number of defects that PMYS put right before I was even aware of them.

Unlike you, we (in the UK) have an excellent Princess dealer who acts as an interface between us and the factory. For us, buying through PMYS was like joining a club.

I know that this doesnt do much for your experience but perhaps I can reasure you that it IS possible to have a reliable and enjoyable time owning a Princess.

Oh yes, and I think that the P54 is the best looking flybridge motor boat on the market.

I just sent te following email to Princess' Head office

Dear Sirs

In this age of where every customer sale counts and reputations are easily damaged you may wish to have a look here

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/2322402/an/0/page/0/gonew/1#UNREAD

and do something to protect your company.

If not, who knows, the next redundancy or bankruptcy could be yours.

Best regards and wishes

Interesting to see what the result (if any) will be.

Whatever the result is it will reflect on the Company and should play a big part in any decision I (or anyone else) had to make to purchase one of their vessels.

Dear All,
thank you for your active approach to the matter. Don't understand me wrongly - I LIKE very much my Princess boat. I am also very confident about the boat as whole. What disappoint me however is the lack of responce from Princess side. I have been trying to adress the issues (as suggested in the forum) to their CEO, aftersales manager, technical support manager (trying to solve the matters quietly and in a good mood), and I have received the assurance from the FACTORY that they will rectify the issues. I have been begging them to make this while the boat was in Plymouth (in their yard and later on in WMP for tender installation), but unfortunatelly only few items were fixed, and the rest, although known to them - left "for dealer rectification" (which was changed meantime).
Still for me the Princess is one of the best boat builders in this size of boats and it is (was) needed just a little effort to make one of their customers to appreciate not only their boat, but also the after sale support and service.

I'm very sorry to hear that you've had these problems with your new boat. I was actually surprised just to see the original headline questioning Princess quality at all!

I've not owned a Princess personally but after seeing how Princess normally look after customers in the UK, I certainly would have no hesitation.

I am fairly sure that the problems you have experienced are normally 'dealer' fixed. The fact that they've changed their dealer right in the middle of your hand over tends to show they were aware of dealer support issues.

Unfortunately, for you the new dealer wil have to be reimbursed by the Princess and will not have had the benefit of profit from the original sale. Now Princess are involved themselves you should get your problems corrected but it is obviously not as easy to do this from the UK as you are some distance away and if they now have fewer staff than before this could also cause a delays which won't exactly help either of you.

Try and be a little more patient, if you are in contact, I'm sure they will sort all issues for you. The P54 is one of the nicest in its class and they will want to make you as proud of it as all other owners. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it soon.

I might open a packet of worms here

but what makes a difference from a great builder to an ordinary one is after sales
here in this case Princess are just playing with the client tell the dealer tell us and vice versa, from a such a great company this is very sad to see
these big brand names apart from putting big 2 space adverts on the mags should have an after sales service ready to go on a plane to solve the problems to the clients especially when the dealer does not manage this...
more so on a new boat but also on used ones

PY, that is a good point. I'm afraid it's not uncommon for a manufacturer to lose interest in it's product the second it leaves the factory gate on it's way to the dealer. I have the same problem in my business. But, yes, you are absolutely right. A world class manufacturer should be constantly monitoring it's dealers for customer satisfaction and it looks like, in this case, Princess have failed

I have recently had to point out to an owner when I serviced his boat that his drive coupling in the flywheel and Twin Disc gearbox were faulty, and the fact that he could not possibly go to sea safely.

The boat is not a Princess but I would like to highlight the reason for reply regarding "PASSING THE BOOK".

The drive coupling was replaced under warranty at 100 hours, the boat has now done 201 hours, the coupling has failed again.

The gearbox is rated at 700hp the engines produce 715???? so the boxes are underated.

No one will accept there is a fault, nether the builder, the engine supplier who also supplied the engines and boxes as a package, the builder who specified the engines and boxes and lastly the supplying dealer who for the owner is the first port of call with his problem.

This in my opinion is what gives the marine industry its name, if it were a motor vehicle, a bus or truck warranty issues and design faults are rectified for many years after, free of charge if its a safety recall issue.

So come on Princess get something done for this customer before this thread ends up being another GLUDY episode.

Oh and where is he these days?

JUST WHILE AGO A TEAM FROM PRINCESS FACTORY ATTENDED THE BOAT, AND THEY ASSURED US THAT THEY WILL SUCEED TO RECTIFY ALL THE ISSUES (THEY ARE BRINGING ALSO A NEW GENSET COVER !!!).
SO IT SEEMS THAT ALTHOUGH WITH SOME DELAY THE PRODUCER IS TAKING CARE OF THE END USERS AND WILL SECEED TO SOLVE THE MATTER.

Gludy has ordered a St Francis 50 sailing cat which is due to splash around the end of September. He can be found hanging out on his Multihulls forum (or on here occasionally).

Has anyone emailed a link to this thread to Princess Yachts?
I'm not in the market for a Princess at the moment but if I was Princess would be going down in my estimations while companies like 'Fairline' who responded to suggestions at the last boat show would be going up.
I also thought that VolvoPaul's response was very interesting and shows that careful research of the product you're buying is necessary. To give a more common example - you will often find rope clutches fitted to 38ft yachts where the clutch manufacturer has specified for boats upto 34ft. The average buyer would be unaware they were under specd.

Not unsympathetic at all.

I didnt read your posts as being unsympathetic either and welcome all your contributions on the mobo forum /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As to the Princess issue

I have been berthed at the side of two Brand new Princess' and I have witnessed tremendous after sales in the UK which continued way after a two year warranty period.
They would send two guys to touch up petty gel coat or even discolouration of gel coat !

Your problem is being outside the UK.#
A friend of mine bought a boat from Holland and had to take it to Holland for his snagging list.

I suggest you get your boat booked in for a boat show (presume there is some sort of boat show in Bulgaria ??

All snagging issues will be sorted and a free polish and valet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seconded (I bought a new P42 from PMYS at Swanwick last year).

Cheers

I got this response

<span style="color:blue">Dear Sir,
Thank you again for the earlier mail.
FYI the Princess team arrived late after a delayed flight but were on board at 0800 this morning as I understand it. The owner is a charming man and it is a shame he has suffered in the way described. I believe now all the issues will be resolved and we can all learn from this and move on,
Best Regards
