Hi all,

After a hickup over the winter the boat is now sold so restarted the hunt for a new one. Targa 52 is still the favorite but the ones still around don't really seem interesting price whise. Been looking at some late Princess V55's. Ticks all the boxes, 3 cabins, shafts and preferably D12's.
Just the tender garage is a pain that you have to lift the tender out. My main gripe is that the dash looks dated. That said the budget left would allow me to completely refurbish it and buffer for any engine issues not sorted.

Have picked up some comments online suggesting seakeeping is not as good as the T52. Any comments on this? Also as opposed to the T52 it has a bulkhead between the engines and the lazarette so probably marginally safer but less easy engine acess?
Any other things to watch of for with a V55?

A 3 cabin hardtop sub 200K seems out of reach unfortunately unless we go flybridge.

Thoughts welcome!

Rob

Hi Rob

Congrats on selling the T40, bit annoying about the hiccup in the middle but you got there in the end, well done.

I know what you mean about the garage/passerelle arrangement on the V55, but on the plus side remember that you can slew the passerelle, which can be handy when med mooring (this is something you can't do with most cassette passerelles, like the one fitted to the Targa 52 for example). I'd be interested to see what you come up with for a redesign of the V55 dash - have I remembered this one correctly as having the motorised screen? I also think the Princess V-series boats of this era are very classically drawn on the outside, a real timeless design.

Did anybody manage to view the T52 for sale in San Remo last Autum ?
FL IT have a base there.
There’s normally some interesting other IT stuff ,similar like older but immaculate Riva 54 and Sarnico ,s 55 for sale on other marina brokers to help with any “man math s and lady maths “ comparisons before pulling the trigger .
Cos if are not sure or have any lingering doubts —————-

Hi Portofino,

I the sales of my own boat had not been delayed I would probably have bought the white T52 in San Remo. The broker moved it on an it is now for sale for about 20K more so I think they are thinking of making a quick buck.

The V55 is growing on me though. The more I look at it the more I like it. Apart from having to rebuild the dash :)

Got any pics of the V55 dash then?

That's quite a hilarious video. John and Adam doing the business! :D

Good salesmanship to 10x speed up bit where they took the cockpit covers off. No sense in putting potential owners off;) The V55 is definitely in the lot of boat for the money category and it still looks the part even today

Yep, it does have too much canvas, for sure - but of course in the Med that's much less of an issue, cos you won't be putting it all off and on again every time you use the boat, like you have to in more northerly climes.

Nobody told me that when I had my Targa 48 in the Med;). I put the covers on every time I left the boat. Still I got it down to below 20 mins by the end with a bit of industrial language to help me along

Like many things in like Mike you were doing it all wrong :D:D I take the covers out in May and don't put them back until October.

:D:D Tee-hee, fair enough. You still in PV? Fancy a drink Friday?

Yes we are in PV but weather has been so totally shit this week and forecast for weekend is more wind that we've decided to come home early tomorrow night. No rental cars available either I guess coz its Easter and the French railways are on strike. So had to listen to the SWMBO all week telling me whats wrong with me. Its been really tough. This Med boating isnt all its cracked up to be:eek:

Ah that's a shame, see you next week regardless.

Blimey, do you also change all the cockpit upholstery every other season? :D
In my open boat days, that's the reason why I only left the boat(s) uncovered while I was onboard, in spite of the fact that handling all the covers is indeed a pita. It wasn't the only reason why I moved on to f/b, but surely one of them...

Interesting to see in that video (around 0:32) that Princess builds all the interiors in wood, I wasn't aware of that.
Does anyone know if this is still the case nowadays? Just curious.

Btw (and I'm talking mostly to Deleted User here), at 4:14 there's an FM200 e/r fire estinguisher, either automatically or manually activated.
Probably retrofitted, considering that the boat is 2001 vintage.
You must definitely get rid of that powder thing that you've got, I reckon...

That dash wouldn't put me off. In fact it would be a great opportunity to re-design it and bring it up to date.
Can't see a lot wrong with it.
She's also fitted with a proper Furuno open array radar btw, a bit of kit which I'd swap for my current Raymarine stuff any day of the week.
If anything, it puzzles me why they didn't stick to Furuno also for the a/p...

Naah, it ain't that bad, if you think about it.
Can't see why it would be any better to hear the very same arguments from swmbo while staying at home... :D
