No, there was only ever one type of shaftdrive available and that was with a V-type gearbox in front of the engines. With a straight gearbox behind the engines, the engines would have had to have been located in the aft cabin!
With either arrangement, the shafts exit the hull at roughly the same place, the only difference is the engine location as cj has explained
