Princess R35. Why?

Anyone read the R35 test in the latest MBY? So it costs £700k, only does 45kts despite having 860hp of petrol power, has a hard ride and little accommodation. Yes it appears to go round corners well but why would anyone buy this boat? And if this is a technology leader for Princess, where is the technology going?

For £700k I'd much rather have the Hunton 45 featured a few pages earlier which apparently does more than 50kts with 740hp of diesel power and you get a gennie and aircon for that
 
I agree.

Boats I believe have production hull number 4 so if it is in Cala Dor ( and more importantly if they let me!) I will do a thorough review and let you know.

The price of new boats is daft anyway ! I suspect as princess make bigger boats they see them as tenders ?
 
I was very disappointed in the finished concept - I expected the boat to hydrofoil right out of the water, fast, smooth ride, economical - possible future for Motor Boats. Instead it's relatively slow and can go around corners quite quickly - there aren't any "fast bends" out at sea - totally pointless. I suspect any targa style boat fitted with active trim tabs/interceptors would behave much the same.
Liked the Sunseeker equivalent though 60 knots and outboards. Aqualholic has done a youtube video
As for the price - I think they just thought of a number, started laughing and then doubled it to see if anyone would be mad enough to buy one.

That Sunseeker looks a lot of fun and a great dayboat! Still can't quite understand the drubbing it got on here.

Can also see the potential for superyacht tender duties for the Sunseeker (apart from its height, which I suspect is easily worked around), less so the Princess (which is odd I suppose, given that the Princess is shorter).

It will be interesting to see how popular the R35 is, and whether there are any bigger or smaller 'R Class' boats. (And the same for the Sunseeker I guess).

I do think it is good news that both manufacturers are getting braver about branching out into new markets though.

Because you can....

Probably not wise to start looking at a VAN DUTCH or Wajer ! might send you over the edge.
 
The one in la Napoule from Cannes last year is still for sale . Hull is fouled . No takers .
Dealer has high turnover of other modals normally last 2/3 weeks .

IF they are ever going to build it, All the old moulds for all the boats have been destroyed , Hunton Yachts have not actually made OR sold a boat since being rebranded, (This excludes he ribs ) made under license I believe

Van Dutch stay away. It is just a brand and moving from builder to another. They where build by someone in Holland (cant remember) then S2 (then wanted cheaper builder) then moved to Neptune, and then somewer else.
On the other hand Wajer is very nice and they know what they are doing with finishing standard to nearly compete with a Riva.

I would also add Vanquish who also know what they are doing, but build of alloy.

I agree with this.

The Hawk is designed by Buzzi who has thirty/ forty years of powerboat racing successes in various forms and functions behind him.
Really the only thing he did not challenge yet AFAIK is the Blue Ribbon.

The only thing you can criticize Sunseeker is for just putting a badge on a Buzzi design.
I mean even a cottage builder like Otam has done done much more for example on the 80 Record platform (with the exception of hull one which was the 80 Record itself) and currently are building the fifth hull, and just also launched the derivative 85 GTS model from it.
