Went to the boat show on Thursday courtesy of Princess. I bought the smallest flybridge they do and yet still, for the 2nd year running they sent me tickets and also VIP parking. Turns a good day out into a great day!

No pressure on the stand, in fact Adam, our "man" who sold us the boat, was tied up most of the time doing a couple of deals and throughout the day was popping in and out with bits of paper and having quiet conversations with the person who presumably looks after their piggy bank.

The credit crunch obviously hasn`t bitten quite hard enough for a spur of the moment upgrade. No one offering to upgrade us for the price of a packet of Jaffa cakes and Cornish pastie. Ah well.

Had a good wander round all their boats in the 50-62 foot bracket and was free to poke around on my own as was everyone else. They have an interesting theory - boat shows are for people to have a look at their products in the hope that one day they may decide to get the cheque book out.

Had a good look round the Sunseeker and Fairline 52 / 48 specifically to compare against the P50, possibly P54 and if someone wants to buy the wife`s kidneys a P62.

Definitely left the show feeling I was supporting the right team at the moment. Despite looking really objectively I felt both Fairline and Sunseeker were playing catch up, Fairline especially. Their interiors just seem to have too much "dead" space and it would only be brand loyalty that kept you from a trip down to Plymouth with your deposit.

The one boat I didn`t get to see was the Ferretti 510. I rocked up to the stand, dolly bird at the desk, 3 chaps stood in suits behind her. Hello says I, can I have a quick look round your 510? Sorry sir, private viewing going on. Half a second later - and there`s a private viewing on the other one as well. Ah well, I`ll leave it then and walked away.

Halfway off their stand I thought sod it, I might as well let them know the truth and very politely explained it was the 2nd year running that I`d failed to get on the 510. Ok thank you said the eye candy at the desk and the three blokes looked on.

When will builders realise initially all you want is a quick 2 minute scan round inside to see if you`re wasting everyone`s time by arranging a formal appointment and tying up staff on a boat that as soon as you step aboard you know you won`t be buying. As an example the Azimut took 20 seconds to know it wasn`t for us. Thankfully I managed to sidestep the sales team who were busy feeding champers to someone on a day out of the office.

Back onto Princess`s stand for champagne and Frank Sinatra on their late night opening party. Might possibly have sung a little number myself very much under duress - all good fun and you only live once (although Sunseeker might argue differently).

A Chinese before we headed home during which the Beneteau crew crashed their helicopter right in front of my eyes. I kid you not. Straight into the crispy duck ! The civil aviation authority are looking into it as I type so I can`t say too much, suffice to say no damage sustained. The best £15 they`d spent all week apparently.

A great way to spend a winter`s Thursday and once again many thanks to the boys and girls at Princess for being the perfect hosts.

All the best and keep smiling

I can only echo your comments. We have one of their tiddlers (V45) and stayed at their hotel, drank with some of the boys until 3.30am had to fight with them to actually buy a round. Next day (bad head) got shown around all the boats we wanted to see including the 85 even though they knew most of them were way out of our league. Can't really fault the whole Princess experience.

Agree 100%.

Yup - Credit where Credit is due - Bro and I turned up - got straight onto a V62 with a friendly smile, poked around and had a bit of a laugh (no we didn't do anything to the boat!) and got off - I think we were aboard for about 10 minutes - enough time to have a look around and see what we could do with £1m !!

Conversely we wanted to look at the Oyster 54 - had to make an appointment, it was clear they were not keen - offered us 4 hours from "now", eventually relented and gave us a slot an hour from "now" .... we had a look on the HB372 instead ...

I hate this attitude (despite the fact that I have a Ferretti myself) and posted to this effect HERE . FWIW, it might console you that the F510 is the same boat that was exhibited at last year's LIBS and SIBS and they have failed to sell it during that time. This might have something to do with the fact that it costs a faintly ludicrous £1m+ and, IMHO, it isn't as nicely designed as older Ferrettis

We had a good day too, and were welcomed on all the stands. Sunseeker were particularly friendly and keen to get us on board. Had a good nose around all the boats and was very impressed with the quality. Also had a good nose around the Princess stand and LOVED their boats. The 42 has always been a favourite of mine so it was good to check out some of their bigger models. Was keen to compare the Manhattan 68 with the Princess Flybridge 67 and liked both boats in different ways, but overall it has to be the Princess 67. Fab boat.

All in all a good day, fairly quiet (Wednesday) but made for a good wander. I was with my dad so probably didn't waste as much time (or money!) at the chandlery stalls as I would like, but went home tired but happy, and potentially poorer after a couple of chats with salesmen!!!

We too echo your thoughts.
We also feel that we are supporting the right team at the moment.
Adam's our man as well and even though we didnt visit the show, the offer of free tickets was there - he even met us at the gate at SIBS because we didnt have time to pick our tickets up from home after returning from Spain.

You dont mention Princess' after sales.
We've only been in the "Princess club" for a year or so but all the owners I've spoken to say the same thing - first class after sales.

We spent last week on the boat in Spain and the Princess owner a few berths down had a few small problems with a 5 or 6 year old boat - and he was getting the sort of support from PMYS that you'd expect from a new purchase.

All in all - it's great to be "in the club".

But don't you fear that she could pretend at least to have a word in the choice of the boat....? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe the Ferretti is not the best idea at the moment. Unless they can restructure their £1.5billion debt, the dolly birds will be working on a fast food bar at next years show.

They obviously didn't think your interest in their boats was enough to get themselves out of the poo.

Yup, I get the crumbs from the table of Ferretti's super rich

In that case it must have been a 68 or something similar. Praps it's a new model - I know I looked on something that size with a flybridge. I looked on a lot of boats that day though, so model names etc. are a bit of a blur. Can anyone confirm what was on their stand.

I would add my Princess congrats to Henry's. I was on the Princess stand looking at the new V42 and James basically forced me on board the big V85 to see what Princess are all about.

This was the opposite to some other stands and it worked, I did see what they are all about and after being wowed over the last couple of years by Italian Models I am seriously considering Princess for the next purchase.

Absolutely correct mixture of soft sell but with a serious intent.
Well done James and Princess overall. They have done themselves nothing but good in my book.

I dont agree with this style of marketing
if you really think about all, it is really more easy to build a big boat then a smaller one
WOW factor only for the big, I want to be impresssed by what I am buying not what I can never afford, not even with all my family income dead and alive all added togather

yeah next time you want an Italian boat I take you aboard a Baglietto and I am sure you will feel other boats also of the same size feel just like small dinghies...
