I have issues starting the port engines from the saloon controls, the engine starts immediately from the flybridge controls.
This problem occured occasionally when starting the starboard engine. Generally, the starboard engine starts on the button from the saloon, but always started within 2 attempts.
The port engine might take 5 or 6 attempts before starting, then failed to start from the saloon.
The starter motor and solenoid are reacting perfectly when starting the engine from the flybridge ruling out a direct engine problem.
The problem appeared to be the key start modules in the saloon. The key modules were switched over and the problem experienced by the port engine transferred to the starboard engine. The port engine key module felt worn compared to the starboard key module, so new key start modules for both port and starboard engines were fitted by our local marine technician.
When attempting to start the engine with the new modules the engines initially started directly. After switching the engines off, both engines will now only start after 5 or 6 attemps, if at all, both engines still starting instantly from the flybridge.
The technician renewed the wire connectors to the key modules, this resulted with a marginal improvement, but problem still exists.
Has anyone experience of similar start problems, the issue being associated with the engine start system with the saloon. Advice on where to look next would be appreciated.
Possibly the key modules were not the problem in the first place.
Thanks in advance.
