I have been looking at a very nice princess 410 in a brokers online site. The boat looks to have been very well maintained but the engine hours are 1500. I assume that if any major problems arise a boat this age (1992) would be nearly worthless, any advice on whether to purchase?

No reason not to buy it, if all the normal checks are done.

Assume it has TAMD61A engines? Or early TAMD63P?

Bomb proof lumps assuming service schedule closely followed. Pay particular attention to tappet adjustment and after cooler maintenance. If all correct, 1500 hrs is nothing. Mine have just rolled over 3000, and there's a Broom behind me on 6000 hrs.

Using the worthless logic, anything over twenty years old would be worthless, which they're not.

Volvo Paul is the definitive expert, but they are not high hours for this type of engine.

Think I've found it: TAMD71B's. Same applies really. Great enignes, should be solid if they've been looked after.

You might think Im splitting hairs here but I'm afraid the brokers doesn't know his Princess models.

That boat is an earlier 398, I've looked at the pics. The 410 has high gloss woodwork, a different dash board, different internal doors, different internal mouldings, the flybridge ladder is different, the list goes on.

If you want to see what a 410 is like inside Brian at Jaykay marine sales will have all the pics in file from my boat sale I did through him.

Hi welcome to the forum.
Volvo Paul is right it is the model before the 410, I sold Paul's for him and I owned one myself for 3 years, a fabulous boat and great value now, Paul's was priced the same as the one you have seen but a couple of years newer.
My old boat is the one for sale in Jersey called Tryfan and again priced at £89995. I am happy to put you in touch with the owner if you want to view.
Please email me at sales@jaykaymarine.co.uk , our website is below where you can view Paul's boat.
Let me know if I can be of any help at all, cruising at 22 knots 100 lit per hour, my average comsumption in the season was 40 lit per hour, Volvo 62s 340hp.

Cheers

I usually just read the articals here but on this occasion I feel prompted to post a reply.

Plan B is actually a 410 with full assurance from Princess motoryachts. It has the flybridge ladder to to port side, the higher saloon headlining and the slightly higher helm position allowing more headroom in the side cabin. The internal mouldings are all 410 including the totally different layout of the 398 which includes the side cabin having its own head and shower and the forward cabin having access to its own head and shower on the port side, This was different to the 398 as the forward cabin had its own head to the starboard and there was the second head accessed next to the galley area. Plan B cruises at 24 knots and max is 29 knots. How do I know this you ask ..... I own plan B and have all the documentation, I also am in possesion of an original Princess 398 motoryachts brochure showing the items I previously mention. On this occasion the broker is right and the previous posts are totally incorrect.

Please feel free to contact me on z.executive2000@btclick.com an I will happily scan the brochure for anyone interested.

She must be one of the very first to be badged 410, I've looked at the pics, mine was a 1994 build commissioned 1995.
This boat has the same upholstery, furniture handles , dash facias both upper panel and lower panel, galley furniture all as per the 398. The 410 had gloss woodwork and internal style door furniture catches, not handles with ball type spring catches. The 410 according to the brochure was offered with the TAMD 62A 340 Hp and the Carerpillar 3116 355hp engines. This looks a nice boat and I'd favour the slower revving more torquey 380 hp71 B motors. If I could put pics on I'd load some of my old boat to show the changes.
The one at Port hamble has the same spec interior as my old boat should anyone want to compare.

Thanks for your reply. Please see attached link to a 1994 Princess 410 with the same layout as mine with the same doors and the same door handles and the same french polished woodwork and one of the last to be badged. Maybe Princess let the customer choose his specs regarding finishes.

The 380 engines are a dream with excess power and torque, I am yet to see a 410 with 340s reach 25 knots

I have owned both the earlier 388 with 306 hp engines, clean bottom 30 knots.
410 heavier boat with big genny and AC etc, 340 hp engines , clean bottom 31 knots.
62 A power units with ZF IRM 220 gearboxes way lighter power to weight ratio than the 6.7 litre 71B that has to use the Twin disc cast case box that weights half a s much again, power to weight ratio about the same.
I think you will find that some 410s had the 306 61 A motor that struggled mid season to keep up the pace.
