I'm after a princess 35 (or 330). Anybody got any suggestions as to which is best and why, sterndrive or shaftie. Current boat has 290's so I'm use to them but there on a Targa sports cruiser therefore offers a lot less windage etc. Any comments hlb?

Anybody know of an example lurking somewhere for sale?

Cheers

Well I dont know much about a 330. But a 35 is about the best sea boat your likely to come across. And built like a brick sh*t house. There was one around Pool with 250 Cummins in it. For sale last year and owned by a mad chef. Watch out for the gear boxes with Volvo 200hp. Cant remember the model No's. But if they've not been changed. You will be doing soon. Even Volvo say there crap. Mines now on Hydrolic boxes. Cost about 9G the pair. Would go on but we've had burgulars. In the house whilst we were asleep. Polic have just arrived.

A bit more back to normal now. You want shafts. Dont bother with outdrives. Never met anyone who prefers them even if they do have some advantages. Windage is no problem especialy with shafts. You can put a P35 anywhere. Course you still have to be able to drive it. And tell it where you want to go. Else it does not Know!! Just drive it like a bulldozer. One hand on each stick. Nothing else.

If you go for one with 250 Cummins, beware the early ones had crap too small heat exchangers, so they overheated and seized up, Cummins did a mod kit to make them work so be on the look out, there is one with these in for sale at the moment, great for 30 plus knots, dont buy one with kad 42 engines they are trouble as well, plenty about with 200 volvos but bit under powered by todays standards, can get over gearbox problems by fitting prm downangle boxes about 2.5 K a piece, pretty straightforward job though, buy dinette version.
Fairline 36 sedan better bet for a bit more money, proper 306 volvo engines and good side cabin, some about but not plentifull, can put you intouch with agood one.

Paul,
Thanks for input, I'd love to go 36 Sedan route but think this may be streching my budget too far. £100k is too rich for me this time round, give it 3 years though ...

Thanks
Kevin
