I am thinking of buying a princess 25 with a single volvo petrol inboard on an
outdrive.
Does anyone know roughly what i can expect to the gallon at river speeds and at full throttle. The boat will be mainly based on wide inland waterways.

What size is the engine and how old is the boat - I guess around early 80's.

Is the engine a Volvo ???

Width of the waterway or depth come to that, has little or in fact no bearing at all on the fuel consumption.

Hazarding a guess though I'd say at river speeds, i.e 6-8 knots any inboard petrol engine is going to use around a gallon an hour at those sort of speeds. Diesels will use a bit less, 1/2 -3/4 gallon an hour but at considerablt less cost of course.

As coliholic says about 1gallon per hour, which at the 4knot speed limit always seems to give about 5mpg petrol or 7mpg diesel. As for full throttle (WOT) the rule of thumb is 6-7gallons/hour/100bhp for a petrol and 5-6 gallons/hour/100bhp for diesel.

Normal petrol engine is small 130 hp 4 cyl volvo or 175 hp V6.My P25 had V6 and was used both up river and coastal.The fuel flow meter gave an indicated 8/10 litres per hour at slowish speeds 3/5 knots,but at just on the plane speeds 25l seemed to be order of day.Wide open throttle would see petrol disappearing at 40l per hour.
Few twin petrols around and very few diesels.
Last year a single diesel engined P25 was up for sale for over £ 15k. There are loads about, quality of boats varies wildly.See loads before forking out cash.

I dont think i will bother with the Boat never mind the jerry cans!!.
It was a joint venture anyway with a mate who has purchased it for £2750 it is in good condition. just needs some tlc, I will stick to my headline 23 fitted with a 9.9 4 stroke yamaha outboard. It uses a lot less than a Gallon an hour. Thanks all.

Be a very good buy if only 3k.Most are around 8-13k. Wonder what year was built.Boat could be early version which was called a Profile 25 I think????????/

Not sure what year. it says princess 25 on helm console. previous owner had outdrive leg re-built in may by volvo cost £2000 it has 4 cylinder volvo is this the 130 h.p.
would it be worthwhile re-engine it with a diesel in the future. cant make up my mind wether to buy in or not

A very good starter cruiser.When finally you get tired of bash bash bash speedboats,the ability to brew a nice cup of tea complete with somewhere to sleep off your bottle of wine can not be overstated.Capable of estuary cruising as well as being able to get a long way up most rivers with its low airdraft,its a well found little boat and when you sell you could make a profit.if you look in the search engine on this forum there is a fair bit of info.
