Just heard on the news that Graham Souness has been fired as Manager of Newcastle United, and replaced by David Blunkett - it's seems the Newcastle Board feel he's the only one that can actually hold onto a lead......
And if he'd worn an different outfit he would've upset some other lot ...
It was a private party - not public function - he should be allowed to enjoy himself while he can - that is what we won the bleedin war for - for FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Even if it is the wrong choice.
It's not as though he was calling for the return of the Nazis was it....
Yeah - I think it is great that we have someone in this Country who is not so afraid or politically aware that they can't speak their mind. He has what is obviously absent in your reply - a sense of humour.

Should we really carry on stumping up to support the lavish lifestlyes of persons of questionable, and clearly limited genetic stock?

Absolutely not. But I expect the country will still vote B.Liar and cronies back in. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
As for the Harry incident. Get a life - it was a private party - ie NOT the business of the SUN nor of anyone else. I'm no fan of fancy dress do's anyway but have certainly seen a few Hitlers and Gestapo costumes before, even without watching Allo Allo for the nth time but I didn't see any protesters then. There are surely more important news stories than this at the moment, but then they are probably beyond the intellect of the average Sun Newspaper reader. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I don't actually think H's education was in the least bit wasted, nor that massive re-eduction of him is required.
I think H wanted to be as outrageous as possible - and instead costume of stalin, satan or anyone else- he spectacularly suceeded with a simple nazi armband and has triggered outrage.
Again, the german commentators turn up saying ooh how weird you all are. Well, no, actually.
For many, the Nazi regime clearly the remains the most searingly primary horror - if not THE primary horror - sixty years after it ended. The so-called friendship and partnership of the EU/community is an edifice erected in the style of a ligthtweight and over-optimistic playground supervisor: "I think we've all agreed that last term's murder of 6million classmates was a bit awful, but we've all agreed to put it behind us and not talk about it." Not good enough.
The UK press reaction to harry's armband - and harry using an armband in the first place - is yet further proof that there's work to be done before this is worked out.
In germany, they've tried to put it to bed by effectively banning commercial use of images of Hitler or use of his name. But elsewhere, and indeed in some parts of Germany, the after effects of the nazi regime- which held power for only 12 years - are as potent as ever. Only twenty years ago leading british historians held that the holocaust didn't happen. There was no international ackknowledgement to the contrary, though internally, Germany seems to hope that with a bit of legislation and openness it will go away.
It is an accepted german trait that - even amongst themselves - that seems able to forget the past, obey new orders quite easily - they have unthinking and righid obedience of whatever laws, orders, rules and customs are in force, and they enjoy an ordered lifestyle. It a trait that can be seen all over Germany, even down to the universal obedience by late night crowds of the pedestrain traffic signals when the roads have no cars on them at all. And as even books written in the early 30's remarked, the same trait allowed all sorts of outrages to take place and get worse - but by the state, sanctified by laws passed by a democratically elected government - the nazis, voted for by 17 million germans at one time - far larger numbers than those in the uk voting for blair or thatcher, for example.
This germanic trait is helpful to "move on" - and was useful even necessary for them to rebuild and create a post war boom, and a rather wonderful country making great things. But it is not a trait shared by the uk press, many uk people, and many elsewhere.
I don't think Harry knew it, but the effects of his misjudgement in the medium and longer term, the jolt to everyone - including any Germans quietly hoping that the nazi thing had all gone away - might actually be positive, not negative.
erm, well, okay - but all germans soldiers swore allegiance to hitler and there weren't any other parties to support long before then end of the thirties. I mean, it was actually, er, part of their flag. And hitler won a landslide electoral victory twice.

"Holocaust denial" is part and parcel of current nazi activity, and no, repeat, no reputable UK historian has ever suggested the above.
There was of course the David Irving lawsuit - which he lost. But the he was a "histortionist" and the judge characterised his “distortion and manipulation of historical evidence” as leading to a “falsification of the historical record”.
As to the symbol on Prat Harry's arm, it's not just a German symbol. Thousands of UK families are terrorised by present day thugs who wear that symbol and actively promote its values of hate.
The pathetic statement from Clarendon Housen, "poor choice of costume and I apologise", implies that it was only question of dress sense.
If you read Jerome K Jerome Three Men on a Bummel you will find an almost verbatim description of the German character: Only that was written in the 19th Century.
Originally written as light comedy but viewed from a post WW2 perspective it comes across as a rather chilling prediction.
As for Harry - a silly buggar - but who wasn't at 20. There are more important things to write about, even in the Sun
Front pages of all except I believe The Times is the Harry story. The successful journey and landing of a European space vehicle on saturn's moon after 17 years of work and a 7(?) year journey is pushed deep inside, page 24 in fact in the daily Wail. If it were Sunday it would no doubt be eclipsed by the footie results and who spat at whom.
