Refitting Eber after giving it a service and it now runs for 5 mins, doesn't get hot, pump is clicking rapidly a couple of mins in to start up and then the whole thing shuts down. from what I read, it's likely I have air in the fuel line. Any recommendations for priming it please?

it's a D4

thanks Gary

Have you cleaned the filter on the fuel pump?

The Eber should self prime.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, I've replaced the fuel pump filter with a new one and also replaced the gauze around the igniter. I'm going to try disconnect from the Eber to see if diesel weeps from it

What filter on the fuel pump? They don't self prime. Take the fuel pipe off the heater and two core wire directly from the fuel pump. Neg to neg of a 12 supply and stroke / tap the pos on the pos to mimic the pump. Keep going until you get bubble free fuel out of the pipe and then reconnect it. It takes quite a while. Reconnect fuel pump and try again. You can buy a device for doing this but this method has always worked for me.

It may be another oportunity for dinghy-pump technology.:D Loosen off the connection at the pump, temporarily block the tank breather with a duster, apply dinghy pump to tank filler, and provided there is not too much vertical head involved, you should get diesel appearing at the pump. Tighten the connection at the pump immediately.

Thanks, that's great advice. I didn't have a means to hand of applying 12v to the contacts of the pump so I disconnected the fuel line from the Eber itself and inserted the fuel line into a bottle. there's fuel coming through but there are a few bubbles and it dribbles when the pump is going, should it squirt out the end of the pipe?

The Eber was playing up before I took it out for a service on the thinking I had a blocked filter and it generally needed servicing, would appreciate knowing how string the fuel should come through, maybe I have a pump on the way out?

Thanks again

thanks, I'll give it a go. just running up the Eber now to see if priming the whole fuel line has had a positive effect

Thanks again. the Eber is whirring away nicely kicking out hot air after priming the fuel line up to the connection at the heater :encouragement: another job ticked off the list :)

Mine does, and mine does, but gues there are plenty of models about.

Fuel pump filter, from the Eber website:

'The heater fires up, runs for a short period and then shuts down again.

The heaters are fuel fired units, so a lack of fuel could be the reason why the heater is not operating as required. Within the heater's fuel line system is a "Fuel metering pump" that contains an internal fuel filter. Refer to the technical for location of the filter.

This small pot shaped filter may need cleaning or replacing. A blocked or restricted filter will not allow the heater to run efficiently and maximise the potential heat energy available. Should the boat or vehicle be subjected to rough weather or travel over rough ground, sediment in the bottom of the tank may have become disturbed and is now blocking the metering pump filter. So please check this out. '

Not sure whether the pump itself self primes (my initial comments were for the Eber unit itself and not the pump) - perhaps depends on levels of fuel in tank, and any loops in the system. Whenever I have taken my Eber and pump out, it has gone back and fired up with no need to prime - it just ticks away for a bit longer. My manual says nothing about the need to prime on commissioning- just plug in and switch on.

Anyway, glad the solution has worked for OP.
