Had the ignomy of being towed into my marina due, it turned out, to a blocked primary fuel filter. No spare on board. The excellent Seastart man sorted it out. A friend said that if I had two primaries with a change-over lever I could have just switched to the second when the engine died and been on my way again. Does this really work? would I need to bleed/prime the engine? Any views?

Yes it does but if there is a fuel 'issue' going on in your tank eg the bug etc it might not be too long before that filter got blocked. You need to sort out what is causing the blockage. You don't say, however, when you last replaced it. You do need to seriously appraise your emergency spares kit!

Twin primary filters are an excellent idea, but you also need to be able to change the filter which is blocked, carry spares!
Would have got you home though if one had blocked.
