Woolverstone is MDL so berth holders will get 16% discount (via Otium points if recent customer, cash discount if Freedom customer) so actual cost will be £1.23 if you're an MDL berth holder. More on a par with Burnham.

Burnham even cheaper at £1.15 if bunkering more than 450 l
Shotley £1.48 (same owners as Burnham)
Ipswich Beacon visitors £1.24 (I have never understood why Beacon charge more, £1.37, if bunkering more than 2300 l, usually a bulk order should be cheaper?)
How much is Fox's?
I think Woodbridge is expensive but they do have a Deben monopoly.

Our boatyard doesn't sell red diesel to pleasure boaters, so I get road diesel from a garage - just paid £1.35/litre from Asda. I do add MR16 o prevent diesel bug. I fill 2x10 litre plastic cans, easy to carry on board and top up the tank.

Just wondering if red diesel is free of bio or fame .

Or does it vary from marina to marina ? And, perhaps, would they know.

Thanks.

This has been covered several times before. The theory is that fuel outlets on tidal waters are FAME-free and non-tidal water outlets can/do contain FAME. The link quoted in post 10 does not relate to marine use. Yes, some marinas won't know, and/or will have ordered the wrong stuff through ignorance or cheapskating.

When we were at Fox's they did not have a diesel pump.

I don’t know any of the locations, but selling fuel is a PITA - HMRC paperwork, environmental controls, ordering and managing stock which may well tie up cash flow until it is sold, tank and pump maintenance etc. then you need a staff member to go an man a pump, a card machine to take payment etc. the more customers you can amortise all of that over the better price per litre, but it’s not a business to get rich.

£1.71 / L if I’ve got my sums right works out as £1.17 / L for the actual fuel and the rest is duty & vat (if my current rates are right). To sell at £1.18/L you need to be buying it at the sort of price petrol stations pay AND be willing to operate of their sort of margins which are notoriously tight and about flogging you other stuff at the time.

£1.71 is ‘interesting’

The Morrisons just off the A14 at Sproughton has/had a red diesel pump
We filled up there a week ago to leave the tank topped up before lifting out, it doesnt have the bio diesel element in it that garage diesel has, Fame free. I was really surprised at the price - didnt check prior to filling but as we have a smallish tank it wasnt too bad. I just dont want to chance that gloopy diesel bug awfulness.
