We understand that Cleopatra Marine have taken over the pontoons in Preveza Marina and have now installed new power/water bollards. At the moment they are charging 1 euro/mtr per night on a visiting rate. If anyone has any more info or has wintered here in the past your feedback would be appreciated ie. how sheltered is the marina for wintering etc.
We will be driving up there in the next few days by car to get some information on prices etc. so I will post any news I get from them.

That would be great if you can get the info. We are thinking of going to Lefkas on an annual contract as we are a 11m x 4.8 m Cat and lefkas will charge only the mono-hull rate. Can you find out what they would chasrge us on an annual contract?

I wintered on what I imagine is the same pontoon four or five years ago (it was then run by the Argolis charter fleet, itself now based at Cleopatra Marina, across the narrows from Preveza town). On the whole it was good, although the electricity supply was a little marginal at that time. The pontoons closer to the harbour entrance were significantly more exposed.

Winds from S & W could set up a surge in the harbour, so it would certainly be better to be on the NE side of the pontoon rather than the seaward one. You'll need extra fenders and good springs with anti-chafe sleeving. I was there for 3 1/2 months with no damage other than a couple of chafed warps. If planning to leave the boat for any time, it would be wise to arrange for someone to keep an eye on it.
 
We wintered on the inside of the entrance mole at Preveza four years ago. It was 'managed' by the Port Police at that time. We weathered a storm of 45+ knots with gusts up to 55 with no difficulties. The electricity supply was sufficient for the three boats that were on the mole for the winter. Preveza town is great for a wintering spot, very lively and accessible.

If you're planning to leave your boat unattended then be very wary of leaving her on the pontoons nearest to the entrance. One boat suffered severe damage to gel coat during the aforementioned storm despite extra fenders and people trying to keep her off the pontoon.
 
May / June they were fitting the new power and water and they seemed to be doing a good job, its well sheltered in there and a nice town. No reservations at that time it was just turn up and try to find a space. Deals on the price were done at the time with the very helpful young lady in the new portacabin. good luck.
 
There are 2 marinas in 'Preveza' ( and 3 additional drysail yards) what used to be known as 'Preveza town marina' and 'cleopatra marina' built on the southern shore of the channel, actually in an area known as Aktio.

Yes cleopatra took over Preveza town marina and it is now known as Preveza Marina. The name used to be used by the yard next to cleopatra sandwiched between them and Aktio Marine.

Preveza Marina has now got water and power and has had since about July. I spent a week tied up in the Marina at the end of July and investigated the possibility of leaving the boat in the water for a little over a month there.

The marina is all concrete, no pontoons so it's alongside berthing not med style. Handy for shopping although it's still a trek to the supermarket. 2 months ago security was non existant. THERE WERE NO ABLUTIONS THEN. Not sure of the security setup at the moment. Protection is excellent at Preveza marina in all weathers, it's Cleopatra that is exposed especially in strong north westerly to west south westerly blows.

I'm going to be there for the week of the 11th of Nov if you want anything, going to bring my van back for Mot.

Having spent the winter in this marina (as mentioned in my previous post) at the same time as macd, in my opinion, unless things have changed significantly in the last two years, the protection is NOT excellent in all weathers. The concrete pontoons nearest the entrance are not safe in severe southerly storms. We personally, along with several Port Policemen, spent several hours trying to hold boats off the concrete pontoons during 45+ knots of southerly winds, they still sustained some damage. The boat that had been left there unattended suffered more severe damage.

It's a great place to be and we had a fantastic winter there but be very wary of leaving your boat there unattended during the winter.

Unless of course you're talking about the small 'marina' behind the main one on the town side that was (two years ago) filled with local fishing boats and has variable depths.

The town quay .... the concrete wall is hell in a southerly, I watched a boat pitching up and down a metre or more at each end while lying against the concrete at Easter this year. The Marina is a different story. Yes the one behind the coastguard station and with room for about 30 yachts. Depths down to about 2m in places but well tucked away.

There are two 'marinas' on the town side in Preveza. We stayed in the first one nearest the commercial quay, I've attached a photo that just about shows us on the inside of the entrance mole (a great place to be) on the far right of the first picture, and the damage to the Gibsea that was left unattended on the first concrete pontoon during the southerly storm.

The second 'marina' is behind the first, to gain entry you have to go round the commercial quay as if you were going to Margarona yard. It was full of local fishing and speed boats last time we were there, depths at the entrance were variable due to concrete blocks falling and there were few places suitable for yachts.

There is no ambiguity in this despite nimbusgb's contribution. There has never been a 'Preveza Marina' on the S side of the channel. It used to be 'Preveza Marine' (now 'Ionian Marine').

The town quay is an irrelevance. It wasn't asked about and is utterly untenable as a winter berth.

As NornaBiron writes, shelter on the more seaward concrete 'pontoons' in the commercial harbour is marginal. Further in it is not perfect but tenable with care. It will probably be a bit lumpy tonight (brisk southerlies forecast). Town quay will be pretty horrible.
 
With south, south east winds town quay untenable (tried and managed... just). External harbour quay possibly even worst: witnessed a Bavaria being damaged last Easter. Inside the harbour, almost ok, but i would not, as some oteh poster said before, leave the boat there unattended. Btw I like prveza very much.
