Stumbled upon these suspiciously cheap prescription snorkel masks on Amazon.
Anybody used them, or something similar?
I don't need 20:20 vision underwater, just an improvement would be nice. Would save me a lot of messing around with contact lenses.

Amazon.co.uk

Not much to lose at that price, I paid around £120 for my goggles about 10 years ago and transformed my diving instead of the faff of contacts.

Prescription goggles were a revelation to me too. They’re one of my favourite things and have increased my enjoyment when swimming no end. Mine aren’t an exact prescription but that doesn’t seem to matter .I’ve now got a second pair on the boat.

I’ve been in touristy shops close to the beach in America where you pick your lenses then slot them into a mask…very cheap.
I would get them…only problem is that when you get to the beach you don’t take them off because you need them…that’s when you start to look stupid

Same here, unfortunately they reveal all the detritus at the bottom of the swimming pool.

Well I took the plunge. They can't match my prescription exactly, and I don't think they can do anything about astigmatism. But for less than £30 I'm not complaining. Let's see what actually turns up.

They have similar things in hardware shops for safety glasses....but they are not comparable....first you have to decide if you need them for close up work, distance or somewhere in between....and which ever you pick...it won’t be right for the job at hand and they get tossed into the pile of seldom used safety equipment in your garage...never to be worn again.
For the beach it’s easy...long distance...so you can check out the bikinis 😱😜😎

Bifocal ones would be nice
Perhaps if you bought two different strengths sawed them in half and glued them together.

If you excuse the pun, prescription goggles are a real eye opener...

If you have a standard prescription the cheaper ones work fine. I have quite a complex prescription so my snorkel mask was about £300 and my swimming goggles were £250.....

Even paying that money I'd say its worth it!

I did once just get an old pair of my specs...take off the shanks and then stuck them in a diving mask...and it did work very well...but looked stupid and made me feel self conscious....sort of , hey look at four eyes !!....instead of, hey look at the fat git !!

I've tried that, found an old pair which I could wedge in place. But I didn't take the extra step of actually gluing them in, because it's a good mask.
I found that after a few minutes they inevitably moved, and either ruined my vision, or pressed in to my face in a horribly uncomfortable way.

I’ll be interested to hear how you get on. Could be a useful addition to the kit on board for me.

I looked at ordering a pair, but the prescription info they ask for doesn’t match my Vision Express prescription.
They ask for Diopter & Myopia Rx.
My VE prescription has Sph (Sphere), Cyl (Cylinder) & Axis.
Can anyone explain how the above relate?

They only offer Sphere correction. I'll see how I get on. It only has to be an improvement on no lenses at all for it to be worth doing, I think.

Thanks, but that doesn’t answer my question.
They ask for Diopter & Myopia values- how does this relate to the description on my prescription?

I could be wrong, bit I ordered based on the assumption that dioptre is simply the unit of measurement, and myopia means you have a negative sphere correction. It'll be the first number for each eye. So just give them that number.
If your eyes aren't identical you'll need to order the 'special' or whatever they call it, rather than specifying your sphere number.

These look to be great value.

The correct answer is quite complex, but as a rough rule add the spherical number + 1/2 the cylinder power value. If you are myopic, older and interested in clear near vision for tasks such as changing anodes, err on the low side.
