Premium price because of celebrity owners.

In no way is it snide or one sided. The boat in question is a fine vessel in every way, the simple and reasonable question relates to its valuation and a possible explanation for same.

My remark about one sidedness and snide comments was not directed at you; as if you would be bothered by my view. My comment was directed at other remarks which seem to have a touch of the chip on shoulder syndrome. I can't afford a boat at this price but in my view if they have managed to engineer their lives such that they can afford the boat and the time away to make their long passages then good luck to them.

Back on thread - premium prices and celebrity owners ...

We once looked at a boat in Swansea where the brokers were keen to point out that one of the Stereophonics had thought about buying it and had actually been on board. This failed to make an impression.

In the end we were told the owner would not accept our offer because he hoped that the manager of the Welsh Rugby side might be interested in buying it for more.

In the seventies my father's boat was moored next to one owned by Brian Matthew (now of Radio 2's "Sound of the Sixties"). We watched the boat slowly decay and no amount of celebrity would have saved its value...

I wish Paul the best of luck in selling the boat but I cant help but think that the price is well over the top. Have heard of the actual achieved price on a number of sales of older british boats recently and they are all well down on what I thought they might be even allowing for the recession. For a boat of that age and size, I would think that the high 30s, maybe low 40s would be realistic.

Conversely a person looking at the £22k one would not be looking at a £55k one.
Here is another link to the cheaper one which has dropped in price. I think you are being unfairly critical, its a fine boat with decent gear ,and for me a teak deck is desirable so not all punters are alike.

http://www.boatshop24.com/en/-36-biscay-ketch/Sailboat/103790

That one will be subject to VAT if brought back into the UK, so asking price is effectively £30k

If you want to take on a teak deck that is at the end of its life, good luck to you! Just looking at the photo of the deck is enough to ring alarm bells.

Not saying the £55k boat is a bargain, but can easily see where the £30k on a refit has gone (engine alone is getting on for £10k with all the new bits), but if you want to bring the cheaper boats up to the same standard you will need to spend that sort of money overall. The fact that the cheaper boats are so "cheap" reflects their low value in the market.

What a negative thread, is this what we have descended to now? what motivates folk on the web to try to sabotage the sale of something they would never buy? Surely not the purpose of a yachting forum?

Oh gawd, the conciencious objectors have arrived. Was that you lot waving banners and placards outside YBW towers earlier?

As far as you are concerned I certainly am an objector, hardly concienious though, just a straightforard aversion to pondlife.

Ahem, Fred drift. This Hamilton trials car running on gas.. Advantage? Something to do with carb float performance on silly steep slopes? Smooth throttle?

Dunno, curious and ignorant about 'em..

Reckon you need a non-****e hit record, kerching!

Strikes me as being very similar to a Rustler 36 but ketch rigged. S/H Rustlers seem to go for almost anything above £70k to £100K; makes the Biscay, which seems as nicely built, seem like very good value.
n.b. I am in no way connected to this boat or broker and I am not in the market for a boat like this; I'm just interested in what seems a fairly one sided and slightly snide discussion.

I agree. It looks a lovely, well turned out boat with lots of new bits and if I was in the market I would not be put off by the asking price, subject to survey of course. Celebrity has nothing to do with it.

Constant performance whatever angle (but so is fuel injection) Better low speed torque (very relevant).
