Hi
Has anyone had or is having experience of premier marinas
i am looking at moving to the port solent one in sept

Good at what? Or for what? Too general a question to provide a yes/no answer.

I'm very happy with what I get as you can maybe tell from the fact that I've used them for some time. I'm happy to recommend them and can refer you in if you want and we can enjoy a shared finders fee.

Premier is a sizable Marina opeator with a lot of experience and some big marinas, so you can probably assume they're OK at it. Any gripes I have had are more about specific facilities / issues at particular marinas (eg, WC blocks at Eastbourne, or silting at Brighton, or late night lock procedure at Chichester) rather than Premier generally.

Might be easier if you have specific things you're concerned about.

Had a berth a Port Solent for 6 months some time back, (at the same time I had one at MDL)…

My views, Plus side, good chandlery, good places to go walk a dog, nice toilet/shower facilities. Shops mostly empty now, a few eateries about, busy atmosphere. Its a lock, so cheap marina. Down side - Our pontoon for our 10m boat was only about 6m in length and has more in common with a diving board. A wholly unsatisfactory thing to moor against. All were the same for our length of boat. And its a lock... so queueing a thing. Never felt my car was that safe, so only used the ones I didn't care being broken into or damaged.,..

I am at premier gosport marina ? Any reason why you have to go to port Solent? It's a nice marina with facilities but so is gosport and it's only 5 mins to the Solent rather than 35 from port Solent, they are also classed as the same marine so any nights you choose to stay at port Solent do not come of your free overnight stays. Downside is Gosport can sometimes take an extra 20 minutes to get too depending where you are coming from and traffic, is worth checking out IMO. As for are they any good well like most business you get good and bad service

I was there for a number of years, only left because I sold the boat, always found them very accommodating and never had any issues.
I would go back in a heartbeat.

I am at premier gosport marina ?

Aren't you sure? ?

A friend left there because he found it incredibly rolly. His berth was beam on to the harbour.

He was paying for fuel in the booth one day and his 10 ton boat was lifted so high by a wash he thought it was actually going to land on the fuel berth. He is adamant that if his wife had been standing on the side deck waiting to cast off she would have been thrown off. Seriously shocked ?

It's been a couple of years, but when I used to fuel up there you could go on the inside which is more protected.

As are the berths.

Our berth was in the north of the basin, not attached to the marina. We'd get rocked about a bit when a ship went by but nothing too dramatic.

A few years ago I had a wooden sloop weighing 10 tons at Gosport Marina, moored for a few days on the outside pontoon. A minesweeper came past at speed and the resulting wave lifted the boat up ripping off a fairlead complete with a length of toe rail. Not a comfortable berth.

Well I am sure? I always fuel on the inside so don't have that problem, as for is it bumpy well I have never really experienced that, ok there is a swell when the big ships move in and out, I have yet to experience first hand when the aircraft carriers move. Been there 5 years now and genrally speaking i think they are ok, also i think they are cheaper than port solent, but everyone as their own opinion.

Having also seen the problems caused by the wash from passing boats on those moored on the outside of the Gosport fuelling pontoon I wouldn't moor save for a dire emergency!

Edit - Given the mark up for non berth holders is around 30p a litre I will be far more circumspect in using their facilities in future

Actually it's a little more than that, last time I fuelled up it was £1.36 for non berth holders and 0.88 for berth holder (diesel)
