Premier acquires Boatfolk

I pinged a note to the Marina office and received this reply;
“Unfortunately the Sealift is no longer being operated at Haslar. Our lifting operations are now carried out at Endeavour Quay and Port Solent……..”

I’ve no idea if the relevant staff transferred across?

I guess that it wasn’t a random act of misfortune that closed Sealift - but a decison made by the new management. If the marina managers think it is “unfortunate” perhaps they could sort this and get reopened? Or not use the term as risks hypocrisy?

I doubt it was the Manager replying to my note, I expect the random person manning the front desk picked it up. Probably this person was a former colleague of those who ran the Sealift?

I very much doubt it will re open, Premier are only interested in collecting the rent, they have no interest in anything that requires a bit of hard work. Boats require maintenance, it’s a shame Premier and MDL can’t see that and provide the associated services that go alongside renting a berth.

I was told the Sealift could not take all yachts due to hull or keel shape. We have used endeavour before and found very good but Gosport boatyard and Chris there also helpful over the years. An advantage to endeavour is you can use own contractors when ashore.

I know from previous dealings with Sealift that many Nimbus hulls are problematic.

Gosport Boatyard allow you to use your own contractors. I’ve used them for some years but my own engineer does most of the work. I usually give a few jobs to Chris and his guys but only because I feel guilty if I don’t.

Quite a move. Heard nothing at Haslar, other than it’s out of commission, and looking quite sad.

Email today contains:

"We have seen a huge increase in demand for lifting ashore at Premier's Endeavour Quay and Port Solent boatyards from our Haslar berth holders and with these lifting services now available, we have decided to remove the Sealift at Haslar and ceased all lifting and yard operations. The removal of the Sealift will create three large 20 to 25 metre berths in her place at the end of the G/H channel."

If it was commercially viable then Sealift would remain. Creating 3 20-25m berths in its place obviously generates substantial revenue.

The other yard which hasn’t been mentioned is Victoria Quay next to Royal Clarence Marina. We’ve had the F55 out there for a few seasons now.

There are 2 x Sealifts in existence. The one in Haslar, and the other one in Cardiff Bay. Different owners. Both are up for sale.

Announcement today saying everyone is using endeavour quay Plus it gives a few more large berths so immediate synergies for the acquisition team

I’m sure they have been turning away a goodly number of such boats, meanwhile there are seemingly plenty of unused berths at the ‘affordable’ size of things
