Pregnant crew

That's why I added the /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Kettle and black are two words of a famous saying /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And anyhow how do you know I was banned?

Ba$tard. Well he also sent me one saying not to take it personally as it was all the other gits out there that were causing the trouble and he wanted to give them a chance to clean up their acts without my influence.

Nanny State

No I haven't, but I have no doubt I would enjoy the meeting. I just cannot reconcile a short hop in waters I know so well with the level of risk that's being suggested by him hereabouts.

This is a passage of a couple or so hours in my home waters, no big deal unless you were foolish enough to take her out in a S'ly blow and approach either port on a big ebb. Perhaps our difference of opinion comes about because he doesn't know the area so well, and is equating it to a trip in more dangerous or lively waters.

My nanny state comment was because, in his ignorance of the circumstances, he appears to be making a blanket statement and was calling those who disagree with him tossers.

I stand firmly by my position.

Can't believe this has reached over 100 posts.

Two questions:

a) Is your pregnant friend reasonably intelligent?

b) Does she know what being on a yacht is about?

If the answer to both questions is yes then I suggest it is her decision.

People like Cliff have NO right to comment because of their gender.

Yeah, and I stand by your position too!

I think Cliff's getting "gynaecology" confused with "misogyny"!

[/ QUOTE ]Not in the slightest - I certainly do not have an aversion toward women, exaggerated or otherwise. If it was a male who was 8 months pregnant the responce would be the same /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

I have refused to take crew out that were severly hung-over - not for their safety but for the safety of the remaining crew. Note: "hung over" not drunk but I do mean really hung over to the point they could not stand.

[/ QUOTE ]Whoa, slow down there, I am not commenting because of their gender. I am commenting on their physical condition and the hazards to both them, their unborn baby (irrespective of sex) and the other crew members. Further more I HAVE EVERY right to comment.

I don't know many pregnant males, but I am totally with Cliff, what is one trying to prove here? This has got nothing to do with the nanny state, do it if you feel the need.

I'm with Cliff on this. Whilst there may be a few instances where I would have a 8 month pregnant woman on board, it would be the exception. It is certainly NOT down to the woman to decide. As Cliff says, it's the skippers decision, and he has to take the safety of crew, boat and himself into account. If there is any doubt he has to say "No".

The vast majority of people I know would not be prepared to put me in the position of having to refuse them, they would already have decided for themselves that it wasn't the wisest thing to do. Of course there will be exceptions, but the general principle of what Cliff is saying is absolutely right.

For all I know, or care, you may be right. I am also skipper of my boat and my responsibilities to my crew take precedence over my need to appear politically correct.

What responsibilites are those? Avoiding embarrassment? Avoiding tearing up water and boiling towels?

Pregnancy is not an illness, is not transmissible and is rarely fatal these days. Within VHF range the risk is virtually nil to the lady in question and her unborn child, and definitely nil to you and your crew - so you are just being weird here, aren't you?

Where are the women on this thread???

- Nick

You run your boat as you wish. I'll run mine as I wish.

I really don't care a jot about gender politics. I care for my crew, whether or not that includes pregnant women.

What part of "IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GENDER BUT IT DOES HAVE TO DO WITH THE PERSON'S PHYSICAL CONDITION" do you not understand? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If there is some words in the above you do not understand please do post here and I am sure someone will explain them to you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe some of the words are too big for you? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
