You're right actually - I have only seen the odd bump and scrape myself - nothing serious. The only sailing I have done was on old sea training boats - across english channel and once in findhorn bay. Done lots of the powered stuff by comparison apart from the ships I had the privilege to 'drive'. Love being on the water and enjoy the knowledge, experience and humour on this forum. that's it. Training is not going to teach common sense, you either have it or you don't. Money certainly is no indication of common sense, it is definitely hereditary. This is my theory. You can tell some people the same thing 300 times and it still wont sink in, even little things like pushing the tiller in the opposite direction as it is steering from the rear. Nope, swoosh, all gone as they bounce off the harbour wall.

Lets stop the PC. Training only helps those who suspect the right way before it is confirmed. Not everyone gets it.
