I have always been interested in junk rig, but dithered about buying Blondie Hasler and Jock McLeod's Practical Junk Rig, because it was expensive at £35.00. I now have a copy of this great book, and regret not getting one sooner.
The first section, 'The Chinese Rig', answers questions about how the rig works and ways to set it up.
The second section, 'Designing a Rig', takes you through placing a junk rig either on an existing hull or a new build.
The third section, 'Using the Rig', is much shorter, because by now you should understand the rig, and once you do, using it is easy.
The book is written and illustrated in a very straightforward style which is easy to follow. Of course it is mainly technical, but there are odd bits of salty wisdom. I particularly liked:
'To be preoccupied by theory is a sign of inexperience, and a reason for not gaining more experience'.
To anyone else hesitating about getting this book because of the price, I say, hesitate no more. If you like junk rig, you need it.
