Powering 240v USB ports from 12v

Ooh, might be replacing my 12V to USB twin with one of those with the volunteer.

One thing I will be doing soon is fitting a switch so the socket is not powered when not needed. Mine has a tiny led indicator light which is on all the time. i know the current draw is probably minimal when not in use, but I don't like leaving anything on on the boat if I can reasonably avoid it. Apart from anything else our boat battery charging is limited since we have an outboard and 10W solar panel.

Under no circumstances would I mess with the USB sockets fitted to a mains socket. I have no idea what the electrical isolation is between the mains and the USB. When I fitted some mains sockets on my boat one of which has USBs on it I decided to go for a known good make and chose MK.

You can buy AC sockets with USB charging points.

If you have an old style cigar lighter you can get an adapter for that.
