I have the opportunity to do powerboat level 1 & 2 and ICC over a two day course in North Wales with two friends. Late deal apparently and a jolly good price. Question is what benefits exactly will I get from having it and any info, or links will be appreciated. Be quick though (please) cos I have to confirm in two hours if I want to go.
Regards - Ian
(should I should'nt I may be worth it for the piss up)

Yes!!! Do it!!

If not for the piss-up, do it cause it will give you greater confidence with your own boat.
My wife and i did it last year, and really enjoyed it. We both learnt a lot, and have put what we learnt into practice with our own boat.
There was 15 people in our group, but surpricingly we were the only ones that owned a boat.

I did PB level 2, 3 weeks ago and enjoyed it. Do not need to do level 1 and for ICC, just fill in form on the web & send off with your Level 2 cert to RYA. Level 2 cost me £137.50. 2 days.

Basically Its PB2, At the end of the course ask the instructor for the ICC.
Out of all the people on our course, i was the only one that asked for it, Everyone else looked at me, asked what it was, then said 'Can i have one too' /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif..

We stayed over night at the Sailing School, and as you said, it was a great piss-up, Well worth it, for the Social aspect..
Remember and take your Camera, And post some pics of the weekend. Is it this Weekend?

No middle of April Mon/Tues. Trouble is I am as busy as hell at work and the time away may be a problem, which is why I need to know if it's worth it or just a money scam.

Need the ICC for when you come to the Med.

It is only the PB level 2 with coastal endorsement that you can trade for the ICC, I did the non tidal course on Windermere and it doesn't count so I am doing the ICC at Easter if I'm back in the water by then

As Martyn says, Is it being done on Windermere, Or is it Coastal? It does make a difference But only for the ICC.

I think ALL trainig is worth it, And For myself and SWMBO the PB2 is well worth it, We are thinking of doing Either the PB Intermediate or the PB Advanced Course this year.

Coastal North Wales Allistair.
I dont intend to move from Windermere for quite some time so I dont actually need it. However once you have it you have it. But as I say works a problem so I have to be well up for it in order to justify the time away from the bussiness. Maybe better to wait for a more convenient date.

Sorry Ian, You did say North Wales. I missed it.

Work can wait, Safety is more important, I say just do it, and be done with it. Work the Weekend to get the time off/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif..

If all you are want to is improve your (no doubt already considerable) handling skills then you could do the non-tidal PB2 with Nigel Webber at Aquatics on your own boat. He was good value when I did it.

If you particularly want the ICC then the North Wales course is also good value (someone flagged it up to me).

In that case you've probably covered most of the items in the course without knowing it. Would leave it until you have a weekend or a few quiet days from work - more of a refresher then. However, if you think you can get away from work... I know I'd be on the water.

As I say I dont feel that I need it (even with my inconsiderable skill) just thought it may be too good an offer to miss, you know loads of drink and at least one night away from the wife. But unless it will really benefit me its too much hassle cos of work and I can allways do it as and when I may require it.

Thanks to everyone for there replies you have helped me decide that its not imperative that I do it now. Think I will be better to wait until my work load is a little more manageable. Would have been fun though. And I would not have drank to excess honest !
Going home now cos I am full of a cold and yesterdays 300 mile trip and 14 hour working day in Wales did not help.

Hi Ian, I did this course at pwllheli 2 weeks ago . First morning was in the classroom . then sandwiches .Then we did launching a 8m rib, then 4 of us 2 plus instructors went around the harbour hands on , then out to sea [force 5] which was superb ,hands on again , then back to dry off and more theory. Day 2 we launched at the menai straits and did m.o.b. drills ,towing ,bouys, safety, anchering ,mooring but best of all 1 instructer to 2 pupils so there was times you were helming at 35 mph on the flat well worth the money plus your level 2 plus icc . Just do it....here
