powerboat accident Southampton water (Hamble)

I don't know any of them but have also seen and admired the boats in the past with huge respect for the skills of those that drive them.. sincerely hope the news of no serious injuries are found to be accurate as said, fingers crossed

Too bad... :(
...I was really pleased to read the first reassuring news, because just from the pic with the boat flying it was clear that anyone onboard must have been seriously shaked.
All the very best to all those involved.

Terrible news. I was at school in same year as Peter Dredge.
Shocking story. Hoping for a full recovery of all this involved. From what I have read it is his son who is seriously injured. Thoughts with all of those involved

The helm was trying to avoid a pot that was located in its path and the avoidance caused it to flip and the cardinal was in the way. I was doing a sea trial yesterday afternoon and the hull was moored alongside the visitor pontoon out side Hamble Point Marina by the preferred channel mark.

Ban all lobster pots in congested waters

As Jack of Kent is fond of saying, banning something doesn't automatically make it go away.

I believe pots are already not allowed in channels in the Southampton VTS and Portsmouth QHM areas, and I know they are required to be properly marked. But since nobody enforces it, we get dark blue bleach cans awash all over the place. Just "banning it again" won't change that.

In which case, it should be enforced.
Badly marked or illegally positioned pots are a hazard that can disable or damage slower vessels, and cause serious problems for faster ones.
A few multi-thousand pound fines would send a clear message to the rest.

There was one about 50 yards south east of that cardinal on Sunday - basically on a line to the starboard side of the Hamble entrance on Sunday - we saw at about 50 yards away at 6 knots. We then saw two more - a few yard to the North of the Cardinal. Thought about radioing it in then thought no-one would do anything anyway.

Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

Great news indeed, it is good to hear young Simon is OK and out of the woods.
Absolutely +1.
Though I'm not sure to agree with the Vector CEO declaration that "it’s been useful product research for us", even if he specifies "in a funny kind of way"... :ambivalence:
That's rather weird than funny as a sort of product research, I reckon.

He doesn't actually mean that it was amusing.

Probably belongs on this list :)
