powerboat accident Southampton water (Hamble)

Judging by the wake in the background looks like it was doing a sharpish turn to starboard and has clipped the buoy which has flipped it.

I hope all crew make it ok.

not sure it will work but

quote.

the Vector Martini Racing boat, the winner of the 2014 Cowes Torquay Cowes has been involved in a serious incident today/

we understand the boat turned over after hitting a cardinal bouy close to the Warshash Maritime academy on the river Hamble.

Unquote.

My thoughts are with all those involved for a full and fast recovery.

Is there a speed limit on The Hamble or Soton Water

There is in the Hamble, but they were merely passing the mouth of the river, not inside it. There is also a six-knot limit at the top of Southampton Water above Hythe Pier, but they were down at the seaward end. So no, no speed limit where they were, and fast boats often whizz up and down there without causing any bother.

Including these. This one going past the mouth of the Hamble.

Gosh. Simon Wood Power is known personally to many on here (incl me) and he posts on here. He is very experienced indeed as a powerboat driver/racer with many wins to his credit. I hope the reports that no-one has serious injuries are correct

I notice that the Raceboat international article i linked and the quote have now been taken down.

I really hope the reports of all being ok are completely true. local news are still saying one in hospital with life threatening injuries.

The powerboat racing world is pretty small and the persons involved are well known. My thoughts are with all involved.

I used to race against and with two of these guys and have know them and their families for over 20 years, as jfm says Simon is hugely experienced as is Peter.

I hope the reports that all are OK are correct, my thoughts are with them.
