Just received an EA update on the water tap situation.
Basically please take a Hoselock and enjoy the surroundings while waiting to fill up..
Perhaps partake of a snack and beverage and chill out.
Your on your holidays , whats the rush. :)

Seriously???? There cannot be any response to this bureaucratic BS than... WTF!!!
:mad::mad::mad:
A bunch of Office-bound, clipboard waving box-tickers.
If they ever have had it recently, then now the EA Head Orifice have completely lost the plot.

I filled up at Cookham Lock last week. Painfully slow. Somebody had wrapped tape around the fitting but it didn't seem to be doing anything.

I wonder if any of the EA so called waterways management have any real experience in anything other than (mis) management.
Have they ever even bothered to take a stroll along the river next to their ivory tower and seen the mess of unkempt and unregistered boats there. Are they at all interested in preserving the beauty of our river, or just sitting in their den dreaming up 'efficient' improvements guided by similar non experienced ' experts'.

Blimey who would have thought boating was such a stressful hobby ?
The Thames Navy appear to have problems with, rowers, swimmers, hire boats, kayakers, tripboats , fishermen , anybody holding events on the river, canalboats, barges, river pikies, pop up everthings and of course the dear old EA.

Sorry, paddleboarders and hirers of little boats by the hour, missed you out from the above list.
Have I missed out anybody else. ?

I have heard this from a well placed source...

The EA management has stopped the use of mowers until staff have gone on a course. I can sort of see some sense in this even though it is a box ticking exercise...

But this now extends to hand tools apparently, so are we talking brooms and no sweeping? Hoes and no hoeing weeding? Do check with your local rep for a update.

Oh and in answer to OG, I don't like anyone - keeps it simple.

I used to enjoy seeing Adam at Cookham mowing the grass with a Flymo on the end of a length of rope. Nice.

Haven't been for a while but did visit him in his new home in one of the avenues at at Cliftonville near Margate after he retired.

That must have been quite a big change but I suppose it must be nice not having the boating public in your face. I have always lived on boats which is a bit public facing but a lock house no thanks.

Something we can agree on .

Do not get me started on **** who leave sluices open on lock gates ?
Usually takes me at least 10 mins to wonder why the lock is not filling and with my rubbish eyes it usually involves a walk down to check .

You wouldn't be moaning if you were going the other way!

That will be me then:D But your supposed to leave them open.
Guess your referring to Medway locks though without all the Thames idiot proof interlocks which wouldn't allow you to leave them open and fill anyway.

My pet hate is finding the lock empty and the sluices closed. You sometimes can't open the gates and then have to go through the process of raising the sluices - think 20 mins at Culham. More irritating is happily having waved at the culprit you passed ten minutes before.

I think i am getting into the swing of this forum...;)

Regrettably, after further discussions with EA waterways managers yesterday, there appears to be no reasonable prospect of the water supply issues being resolved anytime soon.
Continuing delays with delivery of life jackets also mean that a full return by volunteer lock keepers is unlikely before sometime next month.

Yes Culham is a special one, always leave the top sluices open or even the gates open.

Boatone - do you actually mean the EA is incapable of sourcing lifejackets at short notice ??
There are hundreds of 'approved' jackets available on line - all types and sizes.
And why wasn't the need for these forecast??
I despair of this bunch of ineffective fools.

Always good to hear an expert opinion. Thank you.

Sorry should have been more specific, keep forgetting there are rivers other than the Medway :)

Technically you are meant to leave Thames locks empty and gates closed.

Presumably this is to reduce the algae growth on the side of the lock chambers which so many shiny boaters get upset about.

Yes if departing upstream and nobody coming, open the bottom sluices and leave it to empty, hence sluices are left open.
That's what I have done in the past, although to be honest it seems like complete waste of time and water.
