Taking friends for their first night sail next weekend but one, around the Wight. Memory says the pot bobbers are mostly quite well inshore, on the ledges and assorted bricks between the Needles and St Cats, Then concentrated between Bembridge Ledge and No Mans. So I was planning to stay a coupla miles out during darkness, to be away from the main pot grounds. Does this sound right?

I saw lots of them a mile or so off Ventnor two weeks ago. I would be very careful around there after dark. Naturally none were marked.

Then there was the very strong submerged something (wire cable attached to pots?) half a mile E of Horse Sand Fort which took my centreplate for a dive last Thursday lunchtime (as Portsmouth ILB -- thanks, lads – will attest)

No marker that I could see -- but the swell was around 5ft and the other markers I saw were pretty unobstrusive. Shy, even.
