Wow - that is fantastic!! I drove along the loch a couple of years ago, on my way up to Ben Nevis, to start a "3 peaks" trek (which was successful) and I couldn't believe just how long it was. Isn't it something like 23 miles long?? Not only that but astonishingly beautiful, as you have just proved here with that photo.

To go motor boating on Loch Lomond in any weather must be a real privalage. You lucky chap, I sincerely hope they never think of doing a "Windermere" on you.

All the best.

A windermere is often talked about up here. They have there own law, here and could implament a speed restriction tomorrow if they wanted.

But yes it is a beautiful place. espiecally in a day like yesterday. (except it was Bl##dy Cold)..

Trouble with Loch Lomonnd is theres nearly bugger all there. A manky town at one end and a lone pub with iffy pontoon at the other. Oh on the other side theres this hotel with own harbour. Straight out of Faulty Towers with a bit of the Adams Family thrown in!! Mind its a while since I've been..../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

There are only 2 marinas on the Loch, Cameron House at the start, And Ardlui at the very tip, Both located on the West side.
There are other jetties and Swing moorings around the Loch.
The pic was taken at Ardlui Yesterday, Where we keep the boat, ours in on the first pontoon there, right at the other end, just out of shot.

I'd probably agree with one part of that statement, But what Lone pub with iffy pontoon are you talking about?
The hotel with its own Harbour could be The Inversnaid Hotel.

Do you think there will be anyone on the Loch who will regonise the Burgee?

Many moons ago when a jaunt up to the Coe or the Ben was a regular occurrence we frequently pub crawled our way up North. One of the pubs at the top of Loch Lomond had an eccentric landlord who kept a shetland pony in the pub! Invernarnan or had my memory finally went?

So, to get there. Do I take the high road or the low road, no doubt you'll be there afore me!

Me and my hoard are going to Lommond next year. The wife will be towing the caravan and I'll be towing the boat.Cos everytime we phone that Arduli place they've never got any rooms and they rip the arse outta the cost!

So where to stay and where to launch. Can I leave the boat afloat and wheres the nearest petrol station. Is there much to do there or is it just blast from one end to the other. If we get bored there is there any where near on the coast we could launch. Oh and do they sell proper beer up there.

Yes it was Inverarnan. The Pub is the Drovers Inn. And there is usually more than just a Shetland pony in there.
Take a look here.

We will be going up there early in the year, after easter though. I did have all the info. MBM done an article about the place, but my wife threw it out with my stash of porn mags.
I got some launch info from the limited available on boatlaunch.co.uk. Would prefer to stay somewhere in a hotel rather than taking 2 cars, more petrol for the boat see.
From memory theres not an awful lot in the way of facilities apart from the Arduli hotel marina/slip thing. Also remember something about having to registar the boat with the Lommond National Parks authority. Then theres things like leaving the trailer somewhere and all that. I've got time yet.

Alistair, I've always wondered whenever I go there why I very rarely see sailing boats on the Loch, I preume that the wind is very gusty and changeable?

Do they not do a visitors thing. When I took the boat to Ireland the licence for the Shannon was free for visitors and lasted a year.
There'll be me, wife 2 kids. I've found a site thats got info on the lodges Jimi mentioned.
The bit I'm not looking forward to is the drive up there dragging the boat. Its all uphill.

I'm only Joking..... The Registration fee for a whole year is £5.

The Lodges are great, But better if you have a reasonable group.
