Ref earlier posts about buying older boats and lack of infomation on same.
It has been indicated by (we are not worthy/forums/images/icons/laugh.gifKim,That instead of moaning about lack of info on older boats, we could get out of our Captains seats and blimming well do something. If there is enough responce maybe a forum could be set up to enable us to post a few constructive words and a photo or of our particular model of boat and all its faults. So what chance of a few posters hereabouts giving it a go.Can cover Princess 33 and 25 and regal 23ft.

In principle I think this is a good idea as long as we take it seriously. Keep the banter on this forum.

If you look at the Boatered site in America it is full of "Does Carver / Searay / Bayliner / Glastron etc suck??" type threads which are full of people slagging off each others boats.

If we do it lets try and be contsructive and useful. I personally don't have the knowledge to offer much but I would look forward to reading the wiser more experienced contributions.

There are no faults on Sealines so nothing much to write about.
Seriously I think your idea is a good one. We all avidly read reports written by journalists after a few hours in a boat but the real experience comes for people who have owned one for a few years. We need to capture that.

Dear Oldgit,

Not sure if a forum is the best tool for hosting 'Buyer's Guides'. It is a fairly serious topic that you don't want turning into a piss take.

As JFM has kindly pointed out I have set up a Fairline Website (500 hits in a week), with an area that contains owner's experiences of certain boats, the aim being to help people who are looking to purchase the same model.

Although it's primarily for Fairlines C_J has alread sent me a V40 report. If you would like to send me some words (and some pics) concerning the boats that you've owned I'll find a suitable place to publish them. If there's enough interest I'll create Sealine, Princess and Sunseeker websites. I've already got a domain name www.motorboating.org that I can use as a portal.

Regards, Pete

yes, i think this a unique place to publish some more (yet still biased) views on the boats. Only thing better wd be to get dealers to give depreciation advice, but unlikely as they'd get duffed up.

I don't think (as some seem to want) that mags can ever sensibly offer suggestions such as "for god's ssake avoid xyz" and the fact that the car mags can do this shows only that there are far more manufacturers, far more mags and they all rip each other to bits, becauise the price of the product is falling in real terms.

Not sure how healthy it would be anyway, with vauxhall getting duffed over by clarkson becaue they're "boring".
