Justifiable carping

i agree with you brian, and not only those who have been carping about the emails, but the other people who have been carping about the people whohave been carping might also take a moment to simply rejoice.

However, I've subscribed to the tv thing which is now free on terrestrial and even though i've got the pictures i havent' got sodding sound on this puter, so i'm allowed to carp about that, i reckon.

Normal Service Resumes

.. OI .. Leave off the Welsh.

BTW , for those who think our French cousins are anti-Anglo. Ms MacArthur is front page news in all National and Local papers here including a wonderful full page (Le Monde?) headlined ...

'Ellen Reine Mer',

don't think I have to translate that even for a vagrant Scot. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif some incredible Gallic narrative abounds in all.

He should have let her get some sleep.

Well done Ellen MacArthur, of course, and the award is well deserved, but the Liar's timing is rather odd. I seem to remember that Francis Chichester and Alec Rose were at least allowed a decent night's sleep.

The Liar is amazingly quick to grandstand, as ever, but this time he can use his gesture to bury that tiresome story about "Britain's First Lady" (I rather thought that job was taken?) and her immensely profitable trip to the land of Oz (for charity, of course).

Re: Normal Service Resumes

No .. 'twas Mer .(although I did have to check twice), and any Brit would love the glowing terms in which she is described ..

and in response to Cobra . QED - The English are more one-eyed than the French when it comes to your rugby observation < come to think of it that gives this country some hope. Fancy standing as a MEP candidate? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Please excuse spelling - still celebrating last Saturday ( and now focusing on her achievments) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Normal Service Resumes

......and some help from a pitch which was so crap the English pack couldn't bring their superior strength into play in the scrums.

But it will, no doubt have lightened your dark hearts for a while so I shouldn't complain.

Re: It Really is DAME Ellen

I sort of agree with you Alex - in fact your point illustrates my point. Ellen is far more deserved than so called Captains of Industry, many of whom get their gongs for financially supporting what ever Gov't is in place at the time. Indeed many of these people set out to push themselves towards such "honours". I think that, and the hoards of show business personalities that end up with some kind of recognition, is a prime example of the system that has dumbed down the Honours Scheme over the years - these people bring jobs, and entertainment to the public, but boy, do they get well paid for it....!

With regard to Ellen, again I'll say, fantastic achievment, and no doubt "Sportsview Personality of the Year" is deservedly and rightfully on it's way to her, but not a Damehood.

Stupid Boyo

No, maybe demented but not that crazy, wouldn't like to be the guys in the pub who put him up to it. Might just feel guilty.

Aitchw - don't worry . All you English guys will forget about the game in a couple of weeks. Don't worry though, we'll keep reminding you for a couple of years.

Re: Stupid Boyo

The truth is you would have been cheated if you had lost. You played the better rugby and, for once, got the result. This is the best chance in years for Wales to lift the Championship.

a donf, as the phrase of the moment would put it.

Re: Stupid Boyo

Agreed. Hate to see England lose, but equally hated to see Wales in the doldrums of late and pleased to see them coming back. They deserved the win this time.

Also good to see Italy doing well.

Re: He should have let her get some sleep.

The local TV news here commented that the DAMEship was at the direct instigation of the Queen directly and there was an implication that T.he B. Liar was suggesting something else (a signed photo of Cherie with her GooRoo maybe?). Apparently Liz and Charlie beat Tone to it with the congratulations too.

Re: He should have let her get some sleep.

I hope that is true. But my evil suspicions were aroused by what seemed like a "float" of the Dameship idea over the Today programme, this morning, which is a technique much used by Campbell but unknown I fancy to the Palace.

Re: Stupid Boyo

I think it fair to say that both Scotland and Italy deserved better on the strength of their performances and France and Ireland were flattered by their wins.

policy floating

i think this is quite correct. Mucho policy is "floated" as you described, and in this case was firmed up after a quick look at the telly which handily promised Mme blair and A Cambell off the screen for the next few days.

Re: It Really is DAME Ellen

The whole dame/sir thing for sports people lost any credibility once they gave it to that B**88* at Old Trafford, for basically managing a gang of thugs....

I think RKJ's comments are more of an Honour... Still if she had not been given it we would have winged as well..

(There I feel better now)

PK.

Re: It Really is DAME Ellen

She has also been made an honorary Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy!

Does that mean she can now fly a blue or even a white ensign?

Regards
Cameron

Re: It Really is DAME Ellen

ooh yes. She can turn on strobe lights in mid-channel too! Nice to see her only use white flares at the homecoming instead of illeagl red ones eh? I bet that was the test!
