I totally understand what you’re saying. But I installed it to help get rid of the gnawing and nausea inducing feeling of anxiety I felt every time I approached the boat. This was after the washboards had been kicked in, and everything emptied out with nothing taken. It prevented me from going there for several months and I love being there. Knowing that I can go there in the knowledge that it is how I left it is worth more to me than the things I leave on board. It’s more about the invasion of ‘my’ space. I go there to reduce anxiety rather than increase it.

I understand, but your system doesn't do that; it only gives you early warning that damage has been done. Could you move to a more secure mooring site?

I’m not constantly checking it, not even occasionally, that would just be mad, but if I haven’t heard anything from the boat, I can be 95% sure that everything is fine and I’ve felt much better since putting it in - so it’s working from that point of view. And there has been no trouble since.
This is probably more about dealing with my anxiety rather than anything else.
I live about 25 minutes away. Anywhere else would be more than twice as far, and I wouldn’t be able to just ‘pop down’ as often as I do (a lot). Plus nowhere can compete with the £250 a year I pay to keep her here.

Have a read of the Marine How To article I linked to. It will tell you everything you need to know about the B2B and very much better than Sterling's documentation (perhaps not hard). Yes you will give a boost charge to your house bank. For the price on clearance I think they are a good buy. I've bought two in the last 12 months (one for my son's van conversion). Both were in excellent as-new condition apart from cosmetic marks around the screw holes.

Yup. Just re-read everything. 500w ≈ 35A so not ideal for that particular B2B.

Everything I'm reading here is caused by you being in an insecure location with scrotes around. If they want to steal things or vandalise your boat they probably will, regardless of the alarms and alerts you have.
Is there really nowhere safer you can leave your boat, then you don't have to have this gear, and won't have the power consumption problem and you can just turn your battery switch off when you leave..

I’m on the Lincolnshire coast. There’s not much choice anywhere near so local, and I certainly couldn’t afford any of the places a little further away.
Nearest is Fosdyke. 1 hour away, over £1k pa (yeah I know some people pay a heck of a lot more!) and miles away from ‘the sea’. Grimsby is also an hour away and not cheap.
Besides, apart from the damage and things going missing in the past, I love it here, whether I’m sailing, tinkering or just relaxing.
Since fitting the stuff, it’s not my boat that’s had problems. Of course it may just be that the flashing LED in the cockpit is enough - that’s not even connected to the alarm! Trouble is now, how would I feel if I did away with alarm etc. and something did happen?
I guess I’ll just leave things as they are and hope for some fine weather this winter.
