Looking at the surface pressure charts with a deep low moving over the north sea, strong northerly winds, and spring tides, are these not similar conditions to the 1953 floods? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The forecast HT at Fleetwood was 9.0m today. Looking at the River Wyre this morning just beyond my back garden, I would say that it was more like 10m at HT. 10.2m is forecast for Tuesday. Should I buy sandbags?

Much more likely to be a problem on North Sea coasts as the water gets pushed down by the northerly winds with a funel effect.

North westerlies at the moment, going into the west, later if the forecast is correct.

and move the pointer along the east coast it does indicate northerlies for late Monday/Tuesday onwards.

The 1953 storm surge was about 2.7 to 3m above astronomical (spring?) tide. Sure is a very deep low.

Re the environment Agency, we are on Flood Watch. I did register with them for flood warnings, but only got a telephone call early one morning when I was sound asleep to tell me that the flood alert had passed - no warning before that it was imminent. For me, I think that a tide table booklet and a glance out of the bedroom window is more reliable.
