Portsmouth\'s Defensive Boom

It would appear that Portsmouth is to gain a defensive boom...Who would have thought it! 60 years after the end of WW2...

No its not across the entrance.. but to be located 75m off the eastern side along the Naval dock yards.

It will still be patrolled by the Port Police picket boats.

Re: Portsmouth\'s Defensive Boom

Quote from LTNM "The purpose of this trial is to identify and physically indicate (to all harbour users) the 50 metres exclusion zone in force around HMNB berths and specifically HM Ships" so it shouldn't have any significant effect, it is just to mark an existing exclusion zone.

I know that is what people are always saying; (ie conjested waters), but I find that although there are bottle necks, I rather enjoy the busy nature of the Portsmouth area.

Its certainly much better than Chichester with its fleets of racing dinghies, I also enjoy the ever changing backdrop, with the big ships coming and going.

I do tend to sail during the week mainly, and when I sail at weekends I know the places not to go. I reckon its pretty hard to beat the Solent for the multitude of harbours and protected sailing waters.

I only hate the bills that come with the pleasure!

Have a good week end..Nick

Re: Portsmouth\'s Defensive Boom

I must admit that I too enjoy our boats being at Portsmouth (or Gosport if you want to be picky). It is a very lively harbour and I do like the constant activity - keeps you on your toes.
Prior to moving the club boats there, we were at Hamble point and that was fine.
The only downside is that, the last time I was there, the service in the Mary Mouse was pretty indifferent.
24 hour access is always useful
