Portsmouth harbour beacons

In Portsmouth harbour there are (I think) three big tall poles. Also about a mile or so out of the harbour there are some more. In my navionics app they are called Goddards Beacons.
What are they used for?

FWIW, I think the ones inside the Harbour are called Goddards Beacons, the ones outside are called Spit Bank Beacons.

When the beacons are to be switched on to assist entry or exit of a QE class vessel, KHM will make an announcement on CH11 to the effect that the "The military beacons will be lit at hh:mm. They should not be used for navigation"

Edit - Obviously the bridge team of the carrier are not included in the intended audience for the broadcast

Thank you for posting that. I'm always going on about how a transit is the best line of position you can ever get, so I will use this in the navigation class I'm teaching this evening.
