portofino 40

Sunseeker should resin infuse their top side, they where first in Britain to jump on this of the MB manufecterers.

Princess today infuse their hull with Diab Divinycell. Their is a lot of different technolgy around. Diab is one of the known players also used by Azimut, and Sunseeker for the top sides altough not the best.
Core-Cell is a better technolgy (especially to what regards Core), and Scrimp infusion system is better altough wieght saving are much less, but it is more fool proof.
The Diab system should save 40% in resin. With Scrimp you save only 10%. Altough resin starvation in some areas has been most of the problem in this kind of build.

It is interesting though that altough everyone is saying these boats should be lighter with resin infused I am seeing increased in weight in some of the bigger Princess and Azimut models. This is a very interesting debate considering that engines have also decreased in weight today.

I am not a big fan of resin infused mostly for the high attention needed during build. Any-one heard of Monday factory blues, or early weekend start from the resin people....

SS is £390K VAT paid according to the MBM test.

Their "as tested" price is £459K.

They also show the V39 as £286K.

The copy reckons roughly £50K difference when the Princess is specced to the same level as the Sunseeker.

Apologies to the forum: the SS is indeed priced at £390k without extras, so should go up to £440k region with all the nice bits added. Sorry for the confusion. Mental note: never quote numbers you saw on a specsheet held by a salesman on a boatshow AFTER a bottle of Chardonnay. Chardonnay blurrs the distinction between ex VAT and inc VAT...

That's very interesting. Do you know who uses Core-Cell or Scrimp?

.

I thought the V39 was Princesses first resin infusion boat?

No the first was one of the big ones I think 78 MY, like 3-4 years ago, since then they should have moved nearly all to resin infused. On Proboat there was also the interview who consulted them for the move. Think it took like was 1 - 2 years of project.

Scrimp is used by Pershing, Horizon, Hinckley, Wider
Core Cell is used mostly by top end US builders like Cabo, Hatteras. MJM Yachts etc
I don't know of any Euro builders who use CC

Diab DIVINYCELL is most common in EU Windy use it too.

I had the chance to look around the Portofino 40 on friday and its looks well put together. the one on show (second build) was a little rushed and missing a few bits apparently but it wasnt obvious to me!

Like what they have done with the rear cabin to create the headroom, very clever although i dont fancy being sat up on the raised area in any kind of sea.

The external looks are not to my style but i am quote conservative with my boat tastes.

Didnt get to see the V39 as i ran out of time but for me, from what i have seen on the 39, it would get my money..

Somehow managed to run out of time for seeing the Portofino 40 :( but made it onto the V39, and I really liked that. A lot. Also took another look at the F/L Targa 38 - disappointing. I can't even stand up straight below decks in the saloon, something I had no trouble with on my old 30' Seawings or on my current Prestige 34. Having read the Portofino reviews, it'd be the V39 that got my money too.

Really liked the new Targa 62 though......
