Cued by the item on PBO's News Page by Laura Hodgetts, this ould eedjit has signed up for a Charity Abseil down Portland Bill Lighthouse on July 19.
I'm inviting cash support from forumeers - for your own favourite charity.
It's getting on for 50 years since last I did anything like this - and it wasn't for charity, but to save my little pink bod from another long cold night up on the icy Cuillin Ridge, but it can't be so hard, can it? There's gravity to help, isn't there? I reckon the really hard bit is the steep 153-step staircase getting up there....
Anyway, I'm donating to The National Coastwatch Institution ( http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/nci/ ) who have a watch station right there, and another 48 dotted around where we sail. They're well worth it! The sponsoring org, Trinity House, supports another half-dozen maritime charities ( http://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/th/about/charities_we_support.html )... and there is always your own local RNLI station, where your cheque would be most welcome.
May I encourage good forumites to support this wacky notion via https://www.justgiving.com/wil-bailey/..... or via your own preferred charity direct through the 'Just Giving' website ( http://tinyurl.com/olvsbzd ), then post what you've given on here so we can all see whether this effort has been effective. I've committed £30 to start.
I'm sure you can each stand up for 1p per step..... or modest multiples!
