Portavadie Update

I posted this on the mobo forum, but just in case some folk don't read other forums I thought it would be useful info to readers of this forum as well.

We went into Portavadie on Saturday and it's fully open now, restaraunt and all. I have to say - wow what a place! It's superb and easily the best in the Clyde. For a minute you could think you're sitting on a balcony at a swish marina on the Med - except the view is better and the the weather isn't! Well worth checking out. We tried the food on Sunday night and thought it was excellent. It's not a hearty meal like you get at the Kames Hotel, but it is high quality food like you would expect to get at a city restaraunt or expensive hotel. The good news is that the prices are reasonable. I hope that they are successful as it really is a fantastic addition to the Clyde cruising area. FWIW I have no connection with them, but just like to spread the word where I think it's deserved.

I think they will do well at the end of the month and Tarbert will regret not doing something earlier. I also believe Tarbert will suffer from the new pontoon scheme as it doesn't seem to leave much room from what I have seen.

Great to hear about Portvadie being fully open now. We had wondered about going there on Saturday but a previous poster had suggested that the restaurant was not open to Joe public until Monday, so we popped over to Tarbert instead. So next time.

Plenty of space at Tarbert even on a bank holiday weekend.
Good entertainment watching the Mobil Challenge (?) crews heading off to the Anchor in fancy dress - first vikings, then cicars and nuns, french etc - but capped by the drag queens in high heeled boots (ouch!)

Great trip back - from Tarbert through the Kyles, 35 miles mostly over 7 knots boatspeed, stead 8 knots plus for long periods, max 8.8 knots; and just gybes, not a single tack. Only challenge was slowing enough to go safely through the Burnt Isles (furled genny and centred main)

We gave up early on Monday 'cos it was cold, windy and wet and left the boat on her mooring at Kames and drove over to Portavadie for a look. My parents had been given a pre-opening look-round and like them we were dead impressed.

We popped in for a coffee and Danish, the whole set up is quality. I'm impressed and I'm sure will become a regular haunt.

Again - no connection with the owners - but not averse to discount.......
