I keep having to fill in registration forms in foreign parts and they always want port of registry. As I understand it there is no port of registry as such, with the small ships register, so what do people quote. I usually say Poole because thats what it says on the boat transom, but its not strictly true.

I've had a similar problem and have always done the same as you (except that it's Lowestoft in my case) on the basis that if they needed to trace me, that's where they'd find me or someone that knows the boat.

I doubt if there is any real need for the information other than the love of beurocracy which seems paramount in these parts, which is why I have never really bothered too much about it but I would want to give anybody an excuse for causing me grief, like for example if for some reason they check Poole Port registry office to find I don't exist.

Regularly traveling in Europe, before I go I print lots of A4 sheets each containing all my details in English, French, Dutch and German. Handing this over normally confounds and satisfies even the most ardent jobsworth euro lock keeper.

We travel extensively in Europe. Indeed, the boat has never been to the UK and is kept abroad but is SSR registered. Port of Registry shown on the transom, as required by many of our European mainland neighbours, is London. No reason, just that our capital city is known to everyone and has never been questioned.
