Porpoise!

I know they aren't that rare, but we had a porpoise alongside us today just as we came into Harwich past Landguard on the yacht track. I haven't seen one for years. Unfortunately it was such a brief sighting I didn't have a chance to grab a camera.

You probably would have found it pretty frustrating. I've got lots of photos of their tails but precious few of any other bits. I'm also a bit jealous as I haven't seen any for a year or two even though I'm now well down-channels.

Porpoises

My wife and I saw what we thought were two dolphins swimming together today just north of SW whiting at around 1200. Not sure how to distinguish them from porpoises but it was really uplifting to seem them swimming together...

I normally think of a rolling tyre with a fin when I see porpoises which is not infrequently on the Clyde.

I've only ever seen one very fleetingly in the wash, must be four years ago.

As I understand it we generally see Harbour Porpoises around the Thames Estuary, which are much more timid, and all you'll see is a very rapid surface breach as they breathe.

Saw one in the Crouch near Ray Sand buoy on Friday.

I saw a muntjac deer on the beach at West Mersea around the Blackwater last week, does that count?

We saw one about 5-6 weeks ago in the Crouch about halfway down Foulness Island. Always nice to see something like that.

Them's Harbour Porpoises... You can google both, the fin of the Harbour Porpoise is very different
