Pops\' retirement adventure

Just a quick line (whilst I have a rare WiFi connection) to thank those who helped with my millions of questions last year. So far SWMBO and I have cruised from Scotland to S Wales, albeit very slowly whilst stopping off to visit friends in various places along the way. We have seen most of the Scottish Islands, N Ireland, IOM, N Wales including the Menai, some scary 10kt (sog) passages through Ramsey sound, Jack sound and Nash passage in S Wales and currently tied up in Penarth for a month. SWMBO lived around here and is currently out on the razzle with her old chums whilst I stay on board and oil things. We have had no problems with our little plastic tub (Legend 36) and no failures yet of any kind.

Highlights include arriving in Port Ellen in fog, on radar and plotter. Having practised that quite a lot turned out to be quite an advantage! The boat is very user friendly, massively over-canvassed IMHO but equally easy to reduce when required. I have the opinion that rather than being overcanvassed, she is actually quite nicely canvassed when the wind is only 8kts or so and we can still get about!

The best things we bought were an HFL generator, a very sturdy bimini from C&J Marine, and a set of cockpit cushions to keep the old bum muscle from setting on a long trip. Oh, and lots of red wine.

Anyone interested in anything we may have learned about living on a plastic boat, feel free but I won't bore you all with it until asked.

Great to see the forum is still very active having caught up with the thousands of posts since we left home.

Best wishes to all

Pops

Isnt that the definition of cruising - slow down to your own pace and go where and when you want.
