You need to turn off Messenger Popups. If you are running WinXP make sure you get Service Pac 2 and install it. If you are running Win 2000 go into control panel and into Administrative Tools double click Services. Scroll down to Messenger and double click it Set Startup to Manual and Service Status to Stop. This is not the Messenger program you can use to chat to people with but it used if you were on a Network. This is targeted by malicious software to send you pop ups.
This is turned off when you load SP2 in Winxp.
Use Spybot Search & Destroy (update and re immunize when updates are installed) and Adaware to clear malware and tracking cookies from your computer.
Also have a good anti virus software on your computer I use AVG from www.grisoft.com (the free one not the trial one). All these programs are free for private use. All these programs are only effective if you keep them up to date.
If you are on Broadband (you are on the internet when you turn your computre on)make sure you have a Firewall software like ZoneAlarm which is another free program. WinXp SP2 has a firewall built in another reason to get it.
I am not connect with any of the above companies I recommend them because I use them and they keep me out of trouble.
