Poor Service from Ultraleds.com

Talk to Trading Standards.

Some time ago SWMBO was ripped off by a guy she called to fix our dish washer. He told her there was a callout fee but took somewhere close to 20 secs to condem it. He obviously had no intention of even fault finding let a lone fixing it. She paid up - I wasn't there.

I called Trading Sandards to see how we were placed. I got advised to just chalk it up & never use the guy again. But they took our details & his. A day or so later, they contected us. They had a big file on him & were prosecuting.

You never know if they can help or not.

We'll agree to differ then?

A friend's business went A/T selling high tech display LEDs and Jaguar Cars was one of their clients for motor shows worldwide. reason: reliability

Maybe in a few years.

Chas

Agree to differ I think, yes. :)

I work in the entertainments business and LED's are everywhere. Large screens have been LED for years now, a lot of stage lighting is LED now. Walk through any car show and you will be surrounded by millions of led's. The scrolling advertising around football grounds is LED, they are everywhere.

Thank you all for your replies, still no response from Ultraleds either to my e-mail or by phone so I shall now write to them. I really struggle to understand their logic here as they must lose customers treating them like this and all for a bulb which can't cost them more than £10.

If they ignore the letter I will go to Money Claim Online just on the principle, even though it will probably cost me more than I get back.

ultra leds

Hi I had a bad incident with them too look at your user profile he may have a rather rude addition to it mine was do not deal with this customer he is a w****r.

I believe Bedazzled manufacture their own modules which could explain the difference in quality and attitude. They certainly seem to have a handle on the technical side of things. Had a chat with the owner at the Crick show last year and was impressed with his willingness to spend time explaining the ins and outs of LED technology.
I intend installing their light fittings throughout my new build.

Ultra LEDs

I replaced our anchor light with one from Ultra LEDs after 10 hours it packed up. I returned it to them and explaind that it had stopped working. I also explained that there was some condensation within the lamp.

They emailed back saying that they should not be used in a damp atmosphere. I am amazed that they sell any to boat owners anymore.

Go for it. Give them a few days to replace them if not Small claims them I wish I had done it now!

I bought led G4s from Atenled, they have been in use for nerly 3 years, no probs.

I also use aten lighting and have not had one of my 30 leds (SMD's) fail in 2 years, they get plenty of use as a liveaboard.
I have however had four of my courtesy lights fail. They didnt come from aten, they came from 12volt marine, who I will not be using again.
I also have an anchor light bulb, from searolf, thats been fine also, but doesnt get a lot of use in the winter! Or the summer really as its light until about 2130!

Ultraleds Response

This customer has received a full refund for his order (a few days ago) including postage.

BYW ATEN lighting supply the same type of bulbs as ULTRALEDS but it appears they sell at a higher price and do not discount.....

Dear me,
Aten do discount, they send a code with your first order to get a discount on further orders. The bulbs I bought off them havent ceased to work! Need I say more!

I've bought several bulbs from Ultraleds over the years and had no problems. Service has been OK, price OK, and the lights have been fine.

However, I never did get a reply to an E mail about some anomalies in their specifications for some bulbs.

Also, I don't like it when suppliers start knocking their competitors on the forum......particularly when the knocking is inaccurate or misleading. (Aten's price may be higher but it includes delivery if you spend over £25)

I'm also intrigued that Ultraleds tell us that the bulbs are the same but the specifications differ. (Festoon from them claimed to be 11 watts equivalent, from Aten 10 watts. Maybe not a big difference, but I do wonder which is correct)

In my view, product seems to be Ok, but attitude to customer service is poor.

If you are happy with their products then that is fine. If they last longer thant is fine also. They do source their products from our suppliers- they just sell them for more than ULTRALEDS do.

Typical. It was an experiment. I was told not to post on these forums as nothing positive ever come from them. However we were criticised for NOT posting. Experiment over. one less job to do for me....

Defiant to the end.

Not an apology in sight.

And the equivalent of "Up yours" as the parting shot.

What you post has a significant impact on the outcome ...

You start by saying you've given the OP a full refund - great ... but took some badgering to get didn't it?!

Then you go on and critique a direct competitor - rather than just saying they source from the same supplier you have a pop at their pricing.

A single supplier can produce different quality products for different customers - you say they're the same type of bulb - but not the SAME bulb - so for all we know - Aten could be getting higher quality bulbs which are not suffering from the failure rate that a few of yours seem to be suffering. Whatever the reason, if the goods you're supplying have a high failure rate then you cannot expect to get a good recommendation on here - coupled with an 'its your problem mate' response that seems to pass for customer service and you can see why you're getting a cold response on here.

As a final point - trade posters on here are generally reasonably discrete and contribute their knowledge to all sorts posts - they do not actively promote their own business or criticise others.

If you have technical knowledge of these bulbs then please do contribute to threads - there are enough of them!

LED Energy Saver and all that C%^&P

Its time to face up to the facts. I have yet to see a LED or any other "energy saving" fitting outlasting the good old incandescent bulbs. All those lifespan blubber is nothing but marketing BS. In our housing estate (1000 plus light points) they also die like flies. So did most of the LED ones I fitted at home. All far far below the lifespan promise.
New energy saving LED traffic lights are made of 100+ LED's. The only advantage is that they do not have single point of failure (single filament). But individual LED's are seen failing whithin the arrays after just a few months of service already. And these are even the seasoned green, red and yellow ones. It took about 30 years to achieve white after the first red LED and the technology is still in its early infancy. So don't expect too much as of yet.

The technology is:

Not mature
Expensive
Harmful to the environment (Mercury)
Has a much higher total carbon foot print as they make us believe
Has a short live span which is aggravated by general bad quality of devices produced in the famous Middle Kingdom.

Exceptions may be out there but they do come at a price like some selected navigation light fitting using high quality LED's.

The Chinese make what they are asked to make. If you source without proper checking and have poor quaklity requirements and inspection you get ****. Too many companies buy from China without proper inspection and safeguards then try to ofload the blame when if they has specified properly and maintained half competent quality control process they quality would be up to scratch. Many companies make different qualities of the same line, there are those that pass top spec, middle spec and whats left. It seems Ultraled buy the 'whats left' and Aten somewhere above.

As for life I have some LED GU10 bulbs at home which have been in use for some 5 years now without failure whereas most if not all of the conventional ones have been replaced at least once. Equally I have LED torches which have outlasted conventional ones despite the rough service you can get on a boat.

At the end of the day the people who are responsible for **** goods are the people who sell them to you.

That response, together with your previous one, have lost you another customer. Rather than addressing the questions which have been raised you demonstrate an unpleasant contempt for your customers.

In future I will go elsewhere.
