Poole Trip Report, if you\'re interested?

One of our party was coming across from Chichester and got worried Sat AM so aborted and that worried the other S43 who then called Hythe Lock Office for advice. They laughed their head off and said they must be mad going out at all, so nearly aborted too. However we then suggested Lymington as a "sheltered" crossing and had an absolutely cracking trip around. Cold, Windy but superb, you really knew you were out, blew the cobwebs away. Shame virtually only MOBO's out though.

As Brendan reported elsewhere got right down into Town Quay, had lazy afternoon/evening talking Boats, eating, drinking, enjoying fellowship etc. reminded of the great time we all had at the Mercury meet last year. Also met 4 charming & intrepid Sailing types moored with us and get this, Skipper of one, virtually blind, he 84, wife 80 who did most of sailing and not long returned from 3.5 years at sea, which included an Atlantic Crossing and a visit to Chicago!! Made us feel a bit nancyish for aborting Poole!!

Trip back Sunday was probably windier and definitely colder but still sea state very "doable" hardly any slamming, generally an exhilerating ride. Even more whilst bobbling along at 25 knots, mid Solent, got overtaken by a hardy pair in a 22' (guess) inboard rib, they were having a blast!. Stuck with us to Southampton Water then started playing in the Red Jets wake, Nutters! But having fun I suppose.

A brilliant weekend that taught me a couple of things, 1. You'll always get sound advice on this forum, thanks all for your replies, and 2. Get out there and really see what its like before aborting and be ready with a plan B. Plan B was equally good anyway!

Glad you had a good time - and that plan B worked so well.

With Solitaire's help I should have hot water if not heating by next winter.......realistically I am not going to get it all sorted/fitted for spring I suspect!
