Poole fuel barge shut

This is truly bad news; where does one go for petrol ( or diesel for that matter ) now ?

The petrol station by the Town Quay closed down a while ago, so what is the average yottie - even with a rucksack and plastic containers - supposed to do ?!

I will always remember taking a couple of ( actually very professional ) chums on holiday and topping up at the fuel barge; they got off onto the barge, then one came back with a triumphant yell, " Andy, they've got beer on here ! "

So to repeat my question, where does one get petrol in Poole now ?

Cobbs Quay is ****** miles away if one's on foot or trying to catch a tide !

The fuel barge was always there when I visited - though it was my Fathers' introduction to Pot Noodles afer a seemingly long trip from Brixam, I don't think he's ever forgiven me for the P N...

Is this loss of our 'inflight refuelling stop' some career conservationst plan to deterr yotties ?!:eek:

Pretty sure Corralls is still open on the quay just before the old bridge on the Hamworthy side. See boats moored up there.

I only use white diesel as it is easy to take 20l containers to the boat in the marina. Fuel barge could be a bit of a nightmare with strong SW winds and tide running.

No the old guy who ran it retired. He was on the radio and saying that it would close because nobody wanted to buy the business. It was profitable but I dont think it made enough to attract a buyer.

Yes, CPL Petroleum but you need an account and fuel-card.
I've used them for several years, you get an e-mailed invoice and you pay by direct debit.
The other great benefit is that you can fill up 24/7 as you use your card just like an ATM.

Try sailing ?[/QUOTE]

I'd have hoped that cheap line is beneath you parbuckle !

I have been known to set the sails occasionally, sometimes when I haven't even run out of fuel or am on a racing boat with a distinct absence in the engine department !

As I'm based at the Eastern end of the Solent and still haven't got the winds to obey my command, by the time I get to Poole a top-up sometimes seems wise, particularly as I usually try to bypass Weyouth and go either to Guernsey or Brixham / Dartmouth from Studland.

It is beneath me but I coudnt resist it. Its the kind of banter that I get from my crew Not meant to doubt your sailing ability and I was not expecting you to defend the need for fuel but you did appear to be on a mini rant.
