Pontoon Insurance

Can anyone please suggest a good company for pontoon insurance on the River Hamble. I read on here that somebody mentioned Aon but they have told me they no longer do that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it the pontoon, or your boat moored to it? If the latter any of the major insurers will cover boats moored there. Get a few quotes and compare.

Our Hamble River pontoon insurance is provided by Allianz. www.allianzni.co.uk

I added my pontoon (also on the Hamble) to my boat's insurance with Admiral. There was no additional charge.

How did you get on finding insurance for your Hamble pontoon? I've been struggling to find anything. Some companies have said they would include it in my boat policy, although N&G would only do so for boats over 9m and Towergate haven't got back to me yet.
AON McMillen used to do pontoon insurance but no longer do so and have passed on existing policies but couldn't tell me to whom.
The best (and only) quote I've had so far was for £118. That's for 3rd party liability insurance, and is for the pontoon alone.

Any other recommendations from boat owners with pontoon insurance?

Hello Mat,
I went through many insurers and eventually found GJW were the best. There is an office at Hamble Point however they insured the pontoon for £50 through one of their other departments. I'd certainly recommend them

The quote I have is also from GJW. Their quote is just for the pontoon, however it would be cheaper if I had my boat insured with them. So I will look into that when mine's due for renewal.

Resurrecting this thread for the obvious reason.

Our pontoon in the Hamble has up to now been insured on a stand-alone policy with Allianz, as I believe are quite a few similar pontoons. Allianz are withdrawing from such business, so we have been enquiring elsewhere, with rather limited success.

Neither my current boat insurers nor my mooring partner's boat insurers are able simply to add the pontoon 3rd party liability to our boat policies.

GJW who were recommended in this thread 3 years ago are no longer offering a stand-alone pontoon policy, but could cover the pontoon if we insure our boat with them. That's an option we may go for, but I wouldn't otherwise be looking to change boat insurers, and in any case I'd prefer to avoid getting into a situation where choice of boat insurer becomes dictated by who will cover the pontoon.

So it's back to the original question of the thread - in particular I'd like to hear from anyone who has recently insured a pontoon on the Hamble, either stand-alone or as an add-on, (or of course from any insurance broker able to make appropriate arrangements)

Yes - we didn't ask that specific question, but did ask for advice on finding a new insurer (They used to recommend Allianz I understand) and they could not provide any.

Y Yacht will insure the third party costs for £50pa. The potential third party risks are huge so it's worth it but the chances of a pontoon breaking free and you incurring repair costs to it seem slim.

Sadly Y Yacht are not presently able to offer a policy for the pontoon on its own. They will cover it as part of a boat policy.

It looks as though either me or my mooring partner will have to change our boat insurers in order to get this sorted. This not IMHO ideal, both because it will complicate slightly the sharing relationship, and clarity about cost splitting, and as said before because it will greatly impact on our ability to shop around for boat insurance that suits our boating needs.

Any more input?
