I reckon there should be a pontoon in the river ely so we have access to Tesco, marine scene and the train station.Any thoughts?

perhaps talk to Tesco, and get them to sponsor it ? A chance for free advertising for them is rarely passed over.

Great idea. Just the place to access Tesco for ships foodstore and cheap and cheerful grub in the Oystercatcher when nothing available eleswhere. I suppose the Cardiff Harbour Authority should be approached to see if they would agree the location, and Tesco to advertise and bear some of the cost. I was in the Bay last Tuesday night and it was dead as regards local grub, unless a walk to Mermaid Quay is considered local, yet noisy and expensive.

Contacted Cardiff Harbour Authority. They do not own the riverbank adjacent to the R Ely near Tescos. Access to Tescos/Oystercatcher can be obtained from Cardiff Marina or CBYC and shortly Cardiff Commercial Boat Operators. If such a pontoon was placed there and with boats/yachts moored to it there is a restriction to the navigable waterway for boats going up river. At least it was worth making the enquiry

I think the suggestion is for a pontoon on the same side as Tesco.
I see all sorts of problems with people leaving vessels various while
they "just pop up to Tesco" for the weekend.
PS I'm the one who voted to enjoy the walk to Morrison's.

Actually that's not true. They do own the riverbank between the Pont-y-Werin bridge and the the pumping station next to the Chandlers Quay apartments. This was (is) known as Cogan Landing...but may be too shallow for boats/yachts. OK for tenders though.

Pont-y-Werin Bridge

There was once a tale of London bridge and methinks that the way things are going for the engineers at the moment, there might not be a need for a Pontoon as they seem to be having difficulty keeping the lifting section up!!

Well, the workers seemed to struggle to work during the construction... looks like the bridge has adopted their attitude towards 'working';);)
