Can general polymer polish be allied to fiberglass hulls with a gelcoat finish. If this is not the case what polish \ sealant is best for protection and durability?

Many will say that automotive cleaners and polishes are cheaper and just as effective as marine ones. I used to say the same. Then I witnessed a demonstration of yacht hull recovery that was almost miraculous. That one was by Boatlife but I have used others and found them pretty good too.

So my advice would be to use the proper stuff and don't try to save a couple of quid using something that may not work very well.

Thanks for the advice. It’s just that I intend to keep the gelcoat as good and protected as possible, and not resulting to painting over which I have seen on many older yachts.
Painting of GRP being very successful if carried out correctly with the right conditions and good equipment using a two part paint. But I still see many badly prepared and poorly applied examples.
