Polishing

Had the boat polished last week using a "dual action" polishing machine, and a labourer, rather than forking out three times as much for a professional polish. This is the machine http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polis.../das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/prod_673.html

The DA is slower than a rotary, but safer in unskilled hands, and far less likely to burn the gel coat.

Used 3M Imperial Compounding and Finishing Material, and 3M High performance paste wax. I guess it would look a tiny bit better with a finishing glaze or fine polish in between the compound and the wax, but to be honest i'm very pleased with the results, and it saves loads of time to do two passes instead of three.

The yard used the Dulon sealing system last year and that lasted very well in the med sun, so it'll be interesting to see how the 3M compares. If it doesn't fare as well, i'll still use the DA/labourer route next year, but swap the 3M paste for Dulon.

Very nice shine, the boat looks brand new.

Just last weekend I did the same, but used the 3M Perfect-it first which was then followed by the same 3M Paste wax.

I've used 3M in the past and have been happy with the results. I haven't used the paste wax before, so it'll be interesting to see how it fares through the season (although unfortunately in a much less demanding climate...).

Was the machine used for the paste wax as well or was it applied manually?

Machine for both, with foam pads not wool. I used a polishing pad rather than a compounding pad with the Imperial, so as not to be too aggressive, then a finishing pad with the wax.

Hope you don·nt wash/clean your boat with a presure washer, seen many beautifull boats being presure washed in the Med; but, sahara sand or just normal dirt with a water washer does a wonderfull job of making a matt finish.
Yes, fortunately the dodgy neighbour that used to be there bought a Sq78 and moved down the quay :D

Just ordered one of these Nick when you applied the wax did you use one of the sheep wool fluffy heads to apply the wax or a foam pad

You don't apply wax with a machine unless on speed one just to spread it around, wax has no cutting ability, purely to protect the finish.

Using Warpa's new wonder polish and my amateur efforts, this is the result

That looks like an impressive finish to me! How did you find it compared to what you normally use? For us it has taken a day off the time it takes to do a 40' MB and we use 3/4-1kg of product instead of 2kg of the old product. Cracking looking boat btw.

Was able to polish and apply one coat of wax in a day. Boat is 41ft. Easy to use. Still lots left in the tub! I have promised myself I will get a proper polisher rather than the Micky mouse Halfords thing I currently use.

Foam pad for the polish. There are broadly 3 types of foam pads - compounding, polishing, and finishing. I used polishing pads.
