Polish Flag costs 17 euros online (boat under 12m) and is valid for life. No inspection required.Website in Polish only and it is to be picked up in person by an authorised person.
I would like to get it, just don't want to pay the 600 euros that international companies charge for this. Anyone from Poland want to help me for a reasonable fee?

Do you have a link to the Polish website.

Tis may be of interest to me as my BIL lives in Poland and his girlfriend is Polish and speaks Polish.

Why do you want it?

Flag makes no difference to VAT or import duty or anything else I can think of except the mandatory safety equipment a boat must carry, and as the UK has no rules on that, the UK is one of the easy countries.

Boat in Portugal.

N
SSR would maybe be better in Portugal as authorities are looking at locals who have flagged Polish, to avoid local taxes and inspections. All flags based there have to have safety equipment under Portuguese rules so no difference there.
Thanks. Good to know.

I am from Ireland. Not entitled to SSR as not a UK resident.
As I am not from Portugal I believe I will be treated the same as other foreign boats allowed to be here.
.

What flag is the boat on now? Any reason you can't register in Ireland, we see quite a few Irish ensigns?
Irish sailing association.
The government one would require inspection and cost thousands of euros and requires proof of all owners back to day 1 which I don't have for a boat from the 80's. So I am not entitled to the Irish Flag.

Do you have any friends or relatives with an English address? The SSR is not proof of ownership in any way or proof you live at the address give. so you could register it at their address, with your name, and print out the A4 certificate that gets sent to you email address. The A4 printout they will send to you friend’s address can be binned by them become it is no better quality than a home printer.

I have registered a foreign flagged boat with an SSR successfully before I even put an offer on it.

Tried it. They rejected my application because I could not provide proof of address (utility bill etc)

When did they ask for proof of address for SSR? I bought a french flagged boat last Feb and just applied for SSR online once it was de-registered and was asked for no evidence to prove UK address, other than the certificate being posted to there.
I suppose one advantage of Polish registration is that any increased attention a red duster may now generate regarding Schengen limits might be averted. The counter to that being raised suspicions of a UK national owning a Polish flagged boat. I looked at Irish registration with that in mind but, as you say, it costs mucho dinero.

If you’re not paying with a UK based card or UK cheque, then they’ll ask for proof of address. Aimed at stopping anyone getting hold of an SSR certificate.
Just send £25 to a mate in the UK and they can use their name and address - but I do genuinely understand why you would rather pay £600 quid for a legitimate flag registration - the question is how much more legitimate is the Polish registration considered by the countries you are travelling to.

I don't think the Irish registration is that complex. My friend did it and I am going to do it when I get a chance. I thought you needed the full ownership proofs etc that you refer to but he said he did not have them and there was no issue..

You are entitled to the Flag if you are an Irish owned boat. You might be unable to register but that is different...

BTW the Irish sailing registration is gone...my cert says only valid for a certain period and is long expired...

There is another thread about this a few months old.

There is legislation on the books in Ireland (from 2014) which is not yet enacted, to prevent non eu folks from registering boats in Ireland..
