Plurals?

Er - I see the word Forums at the top of the page. But isn't the plural of Forum - Fora?

Given Index becomes Indices, shouldn't Weetabix become Weetabicees?

The cry would then become, "Mum, can I have three Weetabicees for breakfast?"....

Any other contributions?

No, use of the word Fora as the plural of forum or "croci" as the plural of "crocus" within normal english usage is arcane. Forums is perfectly acceptable IMHO. Saying "fora" means that you're desperately trying to let people know that you got O level Latin.

The Latin Dictionary wot I found in me new shell suit wot I robbed suggests that "forum" is the singular of the accusitive case of the SECOND DECLENSION noun, suggesting that the plural of the same is "Fori"

In the uvver pocket, the Oxford English Dictionary embraces common usage as acceptable, though not necessarily correct to the Latin tongue.

Careful! Latin and Greek plurals could create all sorts of crises. Without out authoritative datum we’d have to be genii to know whether to use camera or camerata. The original agendum was motor boating. Nonetheless, the plural of Forum (at least according to Roman inscriptions) is “fori”. But then the plural of “bandit” is “banditti”. But if you spoke like this people would think you a pompous cit.

And have you heard the American plural of process: Pronounced Processeeeze?
Got to go to a wedding, now before Michelle blows us away. God, I hope that cold front arrives here to make her turn right before she come too far N. She's now puffing at 135mph sustained wind speed off Cuba. Have gathered together insurance papers and video'd house contents just in case. Need to fill emergency water container and check food, batteries, radio etc, just in case. Sorry, I'm Fred Drifting.
